Poverty Grey, it advertises the fact that you couldn’t afford the optional metallic paint.

Not for me, I’m not a fan
Company cars!
2) Sales director of one of my suppliers decided to save a bit of money and buy his sales people a diesel Escort each. Young Colin, one of the reps who I saw, was so upset by the idea of parking this thing where his neighbours could see it, that he 'found' an RS whatever badge, prised the diesel badge off and stuck the other in its place.
For once we agree
There used to be (might still be??) 2 x Viva GTs approximately 2 miles (in a straight line) from this
In the middle 80's working at a BMW dealership when we carried out the majority of PDi's on the then current 3 series we were removing the 316 & 318 badges so people wouldn't know that they driving around in the base models
When my ex bought me a 7 series it was something like a £200 option to have it without badges.
That's about right
All the BMW’s I had new were debadged, I’m sure it was a no cost option.
Believe you me back in those days a BMW garage did nothing foc , you even had to pay extra for having your car picked up for service.
