You can fit a turbo off another car in the Peugeot/Renault lineup with all the electronic gubbins from the donor, I think the 406 came with the 1.9 turbo engine in one of its versions. One of the mechanics at Castles garage in Leicester (Main Pug dealer) put one on his 1.9 GTi but it then handled like a pig, torque steering was a nightmare til he fitted a Quaife 'limited slip' diff so gawd knows what the 'floppier' Cabriolet body would handle like.

The 405 Mi16's na engine used to be the transplant of choice, I know

I had a Citroen ZX 16V back in 1993 with the same engine, but a very disappointing car, luckily I changed jobs and swapped it for a new Golf VR6

Different engines from the series, the Pug was earlier and the 1.9 XU9-JA, by the time of the ZX it was the 2 litre XU10J4 with a slightly lower output but more torque available much lower down the rev range.

My mates dad had Lancia Beta's god knows why, they used to dissolve quicker than a sugar cube in a pot of Typhoo, his step mum did try to put the Coupe one out of it's misery, being an auto box she put it in drive, then tried to reverse off the drive, straight through the garage door, it survived that but still it dissolved into a heap of rust

On the first one one of the wheels rusted so badly the rim detached from the centre section while my Dad was driving it and it was written off. Lancia gave him a replacement and that was much better, but a while later Lancia offered to buy all the Betas back that had been sold upomto that point so he took the cash.

Shame, because it was a very decent car to drive.

I had a banger of a Beta years ago ironically the bodywork was good, actually really quite good. What let it down were the siezed bleed nipples on the alloy calipers, it wasn't economical to replace the calipers to bleed the brakes ...so I sold it dirt cheap.
