I will do that, as I'm now less happy about it all. I'm trying to drop the painkillers as I don't like popping pills at all if I can help it but it means that I felt sick last night and I can feel it constantly.

It's a good thing in a way if it stops me reaching for something or stretching awkwardly.

At least they can't accuse me of being a malingerer, when I rang to book the appointment the receptionist asked me to confirm the address they had for me from the last time I visited a GP - it was an address I moved out of in 1996. Good grief, we had a Tory government the last time I saw a doc!

Update...and a grumble to get off my chest

Bike isn't badly damaged and just requires replacement forks....IF EBC can get the forks in the same colour, they are getting back to me on that. If not then I guess I should demand a new complete frameset if, as I suspect, having replacement forks repainted would invalidate any warranty (which was EBC's answer to that question when I considered having the whole bike repainted earlier)

Whatever the outcome of that I won't be riding it for some time though

Awaiting appointment to start physio only...ridden twice since the accident each time only 2 miles each way to catch the train to football - and that is far enough even on the more upright MTB. Mind you, first football match, early score, natural response to leap up, cheer and fling arms up in the air. Well...everyone else was cheering so my yell went unnoticed ...was careful only to punch the air with my left fist when we scored after that!!!

I can however carry a small daysack now so I can at least go out walking if I can't go out cycling (though avoiding any use of walking poles).

I was going to try to build up to running a half-marathon this year but I'm missing the early season 10k runs which is annoying - I only got into running last year and surprised myself by enjoying it, having not even so much as ran for a bus before then! As I'm of "larger" build I was planning on taking the spring/summer to slowly build up

I've also handed back the bungee jump that I was going to do as a fund-raiser for an animal shelter this summer as I can't see being yanked around with straps round my chest and shoulders being much help either....

All because someone thought they'd "nip through in front" and save 30 seconds wait

First, the important bits: glad you are ok and really sorry to hear about your cat. You've had a bad week without a doubt -my best wishes to you.

Secondly, and I don't mean to put a spanner in the works, but I'd push for a new bike (or fork and frame) if possible. Since the fork sustained that kind of damage, I'm not convinced the frame didn't either -and it might not be readily visible. I'd always be wondering about it -frame failure doesn't bear thinking about.....

Sorry, don't mean to be putting doubts into your mind, but really, if you can, go with a new frame as well for peace of mind. Again, best wishes, hope you are feeling better and you enjoy your time with your cat.

It's a pain. My accident wrote off 2009 plans and the surgery to repair the damage has written off most of 2011. Still can't climb any steep hills with my shoulder. Fitness is back, but there is still too much pain.

Take it easy. Ps how about black carbon forks.

+1 to Nigeyy. Damaged forks like that almost always mean a new frame too. I wouldn't like to trust a frame that's had such a huge impact.

+1 on that, I'd be surprised if the frame hasn't sustained any damage, I'd be checking for damage, ridges, on the underside of the frame tubes just behind the headset.

Oh my god...it's just hit me, looking back at the photos. It's my "green curse"

Green transport just doesn't work out for me...for some reason every green car I have owned has suffered catastrophic failure (2 of which involved replacement engines) and I've only just twigged that's not just cars it's bikes

1) Raleigh Lizard - crashed and bent the frame (off-road)
2) Met. Green Vauxhall Astra - nothing but trouble, bought for £1100 sold for £200 6 months later
3) Green Daewoo Espero - engine threw a conrod at only 70'000 miles
4) Green Skoda Favorit - engine blew up
5) Green Country Explorer - well...I need say no more

I don't think I've actually had a single other green vehicle, however propelled, meaning that I have never had any green transport that has not involved some majorly destructive disaster

Good news...the driver's insurance company has admitted all liability

I am currently pressing EBC for a firm answer. I asked "is the frame warranty null and void as the cycle has had a collision?" - the branch answer is "unsure"

I do know the issues with frames that have been crashed, I had an MTB many years ago that I bent the forks (my own fault, planted it in a ditch at speed), replaced the forks, then weeks later hit an ordinary kerb edge and the head tube folded vertically, creasing the down tube and stretching the top tube...minor impact obviously a result of weakening from the more serious crash

Neither am I into the litigation culture...I do believe that the driver has had some say in this admission of liability and something about his mannerism at the scene makes me think that a lesson has been learned already

All I want is not to be left out of pocket

I *WOULD* have seriously mentioned the issue of frame/fork paint colour last year as the green forks not being available, replacements are currently black (not aesthetically that bad) - last year they would have been blue - a terrible look

Though i do wonder what the response would be if a car driver were asked to accept a black wing on a green car......

Yeah, I think you know the answer already - it's at least a new frame and forks. It's your life and limb that'll be risked for the second time with a dodgy frame.

Ouch. Make triple sure you are happy with your shoulder.

Worth resssurecting just for this, in case anyone else has similar

Its now 10 months on and I still can't sleep on my right side - if I have a few beers and turn in my sleep I know about it in the morning.

Just recently (last 2 weeks) it has really started acting up again - its now constantly aching - which has prompted a few investigative "unusual" joint movements. Perhaps the cold weather has exacerbated it.

Unusual in that I am not given to doing the funky chicken but if I do, my left arm goes up and down fine, my right shoulder clunks its way up and down. Similarly if I do exaggerated "jogging" arm movements, my left shoulder rotates smoothly, my right crunches (3 clicks) its way round.

Dropping the stem & bars on the new bike has proved to be not so comfortable in the shoulder too....I think the trike will be getting pressed into daily use again (though I prefer not to use it for commuting)

Glad I haven't settled yet, a suggestion has been made of a figure which would more than compensate for the bike, but would soon disappear(and the rest!) if spent on private treatment....

Shame as I thought it was fine, I've certainly been sawing wood, lifting fridges, painting and so on - all normal stuff - without problem. Until it got cold..

Not sure if anything can be done about it or if I'm just stuck with it now, but a visit to the quack again is in order next week

Sounds like what I had - shoulder impingement. Mine clicked badly if you did breast stroke or punching movements. Cured with a decompression operation, well mechanically better, and still can't sleep on it.

Docs and ask to be referred to your shoulder clinic.
