In 1699 Isaac Newton became Master of the Royal Mints to root out and prosecute notorious counterfeiters, improve the way quality is checked, and refine weights and measures to standards never seen before.
Fanny Haddock married Dick Codpiece at York Minster in 1066. Dick was unfortunately killed during the cod wars fought at Hastings. She then went on to marry Oliver Codwell at Westminster Abbey in 1436. She is Britain’s longest lived woman.
Wellingtons were originally invented for the holding gravy at the finest banquets. It’s was only later, that the Romans used them for foot wear, after complaining about wet feet up at Hadrian’s wall.
