Yorkshire was to ne named after Susannah York, the most desired lady by the men of the region. Sadly, Susannah declined the offer and Michael York gladly took the honour.
Michael York played the part D’Almation in the 1973 adaption The Three Huskyteers. People commonly assume it was a film set in 17th Century France. It was in fact filmed in Yorkshire and no adaptions were necessary to make it look like the 17th Century.
Yorkshire required considerable adaption to being it forward to the 17th century for the film, as the residents still lived in caves, wore animal furs and had not invented fire.
Strangely, they had invented the wheel but used it only to continuously push a loaf of Bovis up a steep hill.
Bovis is the Yorkshire equivalent of Hovis. However, due to a misunderstanding, Bovis is in fact made from grit. They are produced when two Gritstone wheels are ground together without grain as a lubricant. Yorkshire being too cold to grow anything. Hence the term use your Yorkshire loaf, which was anything but bread, and was a refrain meaning grab a Bovis as a weapon when fights broke out..
Hovis the housebuilder was founded in 1971 by the famous yorkshireman Jean Claude Van Damme. The company is famous for making houses exlusively with bricks make from bread.
They also invented cob houses using a small round variant of the Bovis. This puzzles people in more modern counties where the cob is a nice crusty roll enjoyed for lunch.
Cob houses were thus named because the company went bust and the workmen went unpaid, and thus had a 'cob on". Houses made by builders which went unpaid accordingly became known as cob houses.
Morning Wood is an alternative rock band from New York City. Founded in 2001. They often appear without warning in couple‘s beds in the morning. By lunch time Morning Wood have usually moved on. The Beatles song “Blackbird” was also about this issue. Paul McCartney revealed the true meaning of the lyrics in a recent interview with MTV. He said it was inspired by Linda one morning.
Fanny Craddock's real name is Fanny Haddock. However, after she was saddled with the name of Fishy M***e at school she changed it by deed poll to something only slightly less embarassing.
