During the Great Christmas Famine of 1842, Queen Victoria was concerned that her subjects would not be able to enjoy the usual Christmas delicacies. Fortunately, the Great Christmas Famine co-incinded with the Great Wallpaper Paste Surplus, and Isaac Newton, the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Queen, was instructed to devise a process where wallpaper paste could be converted into tasty morsels.
He failed miserably, and Bread Sauce was the result.
"Bread Sauce" does not actually contain any bread, or indeed any other ingredient apart from wallpaper paste.
