Our ancient ancestors would be terrible confused at our use of language, as some words now are understood to mean the exact opposite of what they were originally used for.
One example is monopoly, which now refers to a single enterprise running all operations, when originally it meant the exact opposite hence the root of the word mono = One poly = many Therefore one for the many, and was used like the three musketeers motto, all for one, and one for all.
The original word for what we understand a monopoly to be has now transformed into a totally different understanding, and was related to what we would now call fat cats. The original word being rolypoly.
