I recall it being announced in the early 80s that we were still technically at war with Holland because of some oversight in concluding some treaty after the Napoleonic wars. This was then tidied up in a little ceremony announced on the news. At that time I worked for a company which was a joint venture with the Dutch so there was some mirth. My boss was all for resuming hostilities, rather than the new treaty, as he was increasingly frustrated with the obstructive and downright unreasonable "Bloody Cloggies"as he put it. To be fair the main problem was really one particular Cloggie who was also considered to be an arse by his fellow countrymen.

I've never understood why grapefruit are called grapefruit. Surely the only real grapefruit is a grape, which is, after all, a fruit. Why name one fruit after another, which it could hardly resemble less?
