In the days when I wore a helmet, I'd rather wear it than carry it for two reasons.

1. I want both hands free for shopping etc.
2. If it's swinging about in my hand, it's likely to bash against stuff, constantly weakening it.

Perhaps threaten to sue TESCO if your helmet knocks against a shelf, on the grounds that it'll need replacing...

But, but, but,

A supermarket is a dangerous environment. Possibility of being mowed down by a high speed trolley as people dash about looking for bargains (SMIDSY!) not to mention the danger of a tin of baked beans falling from the top shelf and banging you on the head. Has anyone done research into the dangers of head injuries in supermarkets. I demand compulsory helmets and hi-vis whilst shopping. Please think of the children.

And cyclists have a reputation for being self-righteous pillocks.

Wonder where that comes from....

Next folk will be telling us how they keep earphones on when visiting the dentist or barbers

Earphones aren't a protective piece of clothing though...

I'd be none to happy. To ask me as a Jewish male to remove my wooly hat, but to not ask a Sikh to remove their turban is discriminatory.

As a wooly hat wearing mixed race cycling secular Jew who, happens to look like a Sikh I could claim membership of more minority groups than you could shake a stick at, I've got better things to do than to fret about being asked to remove a cycling helmet prior to entering a supermarket.

Discrimination is often where you choose to find it.

Yes they are.....

They protect us from the 5hite that their wearers are listening to.

Motorcycle helmets conceal the face and are heavy enough to use as a weapon. We are discussing the case of someone with a cycle helmet though.

I've had people complaining when I've walked in with a hinge lid on...with it in the up position.

They only have to worry if I take it off and start swinging it, so they best leave things be and leave me be.
I go in the local Tesco's 4 or 5 times a week as it is that local, and all the till staff recognise me with and without the lid, with or without the motorbike gear on as I am that familiar with them. It is only some of the security guards who do the jobsworth bit.
