Whoops didn't realise I should've posted here 1st
Newbie from Glasgow (East Renfrewshire):hello:
I've always been into bikes when I was younger. Last 2 years working in the city centre I have been able to commute as it's the only time I can fit in excercise around young kiddies and keep my blood sugar levels low. Have been stepping it up to more regular and increasing.
My old mountain bike 13 years I just killed and got a great price on a lighter Halfords bike with thin tyres and much lighter, I'm enjoying it even more! A fine forum here!

Hello all :hello:
I've been reading the forum for the last couple of weeks and just thought I'd say hi!.

I realized about 6 months ago that the extra weight that had started to accumulate on me was not gonna just go away like it used to, it wanted to be my new best friend.......and that's not what I wanted :stop:.

Anyway, about a month ago I went to Halfords (I know) and bought a hybrid just to do a bit of exercise. After having not rode a bike for the last 26/27 years, I'd forgotten how enjoyable and refreshing it is......I've been going further and further every day and really enjoying it.

You never know, maybe in a few months time, I might buy a proper bike ;)

Hello!
been reading this for a little while now as I am looking to get into biking. I am currently a student and will be for a few more years, after attempting to use a car at uni I realised the price of petrol, parking and general laziness of the commute to work I decided to do it by a healthier, more pedally method. Im currently on an old mountain bike that packs in with every gear change and was won at a police auction. So long story short Im looking to upgrade within a students budget!

Hey!

This is all very new, and am late starter at 45! Have just bought my first road bike and am thinking of taking it back!!
It is a little bit of a wobbly ride as the tyres are soo much thinner than those on my hybrid, though have noticed after a couple of short journeys today I was more in control and more confident...so may be..
I can't reach the breaks from the top position which is more comfortable to ride so am anxious all the time about breaking!
I feel very cramped when riding as my head is so low I am hurting my neck looking up to see road ahead
I used the toe clips and fell off approximately 30 secs later when needed to put foot down due to slipping on wet leaves on a corner..ouch!
I can't work out how to work out where I am on the gears using the lever on left, resulting in me making it harder to get up that hill, instead of easier!!

So once you are up off the floor and have finished laughing..any tips or encouragement would be gratefully received !!!

Hello from sunny East Kilbride in Scotland!
I have just taken delivery of my B'Twin Rockrider from Decathlon and I'm very new to this cycling game, I haven't owned a bike since my Tuff Burner BMX in 80's!
So I might be asking more questions than answering them on these forums!!!
Looking forward to getting back in the saddle as they say!

Hi Loops. I'm 42 and new to road biking myself a few weeks ago. I don't have the 'know-how' but I am able to offer encouragement. Everybody falls and stumbles about with those toe clips. You weren't the first and certainly won't be the last. I even managed it even though I'd one foot out. Got the foot out only for me and the bike to lean and fall over on the other / wrong side. All in slow motion - very Keystone Cops. Which bit of the bars is called the 'Tops'? Is that the same as the Horns? I can reach the brakes from there and the drops. I couldn't reach the brakes if I was in any other position. Perhaps if you get out a few more times you'll start to feel it easier on your neck? As for the gears, do they work like mine? A gear lever alone + a gear lever & brake lever combo? On my right the gear lever alone makes it harder to pedal. The gear & brake lever combo makes it easier to pedal. It is the opposite on my left. Gear lever makes it easier. Gear & Brake combo makes it harder to pedal. keep at it. Don't give up.

Edit: Just learned "Hoods" is what I meant when I said "Horns"

hello from not so sunny Leigh.... Any North West riders out there????

Well, it's dead easy - just say Hello and tell us a little bit about yourself and whereabouts you're from (so we can invite you along to rides!!)

Believe me, once you get that first post under your belt you'll be off!

My name's Shaun by the way, and I own and operate CycleChat.

If you need any help or advice on using the forums, or want to ask a question but don't want to do it publicly - just send me a PM (private message).

Hope you enjoy, and welcome to CycleChat

Cheers,

My name's Ron. I've never been on a cycle forum before. I've been cycling to work for 5 years now between Brighton and Hove which involves a couple of hills. Apart from my hybrid bike I got a mountain bike (on cycle to work scheme

) and play with that at the weekends and holiday. Living near the South Downs (10 minutes on the bike) it's a great hobby. I look upon my non-cycling years (18-38) as my wasted years. I recenty completed the midnight run from London to Brighton where I met TheBoyBilly who told me all about this place.

Hello all

My apologies for not posting here first. I am new to the world of cycling - last time I rode a bike on a daily basis was back in my school days. As I'm on the wrong side of my 40's  ... I decided I needed to do something about my fitness and cycling looks like the way to go. I have been browsing this forum for the past few days and decided to take the plunge and registered this morning.

I look forward to reading the discussions and learning from all you seasoned cyclists. Hopefully in time I'll be able to make meaningful contributions.

Best regards,

Adrian

Hi there,

I'm a 40 year old, ex football player, who's developed an extended waist as past few years...from a rural part of N Ireland, new to cycling!

I've just got my 1st road bike, it's a TREK 1.1 2011 model - I bought this through the CycleScheme through my employer..

I'd be interested in finding out what you think of this particular model?

Looking forward to plenty more posts on this forum..

Thanks

Hello,
I'm Dave. The last time I rode more than 10 miles was when I had bum fluff on my chin. Now I'm the wrong side of 40 and commute 7 miles each way with some 20-25 milers at the weekend.
I have no stamina, plenty of enthusiasm and a Trek 1.5

Hello there, newbie here. Toomanybikes is self explanatory really, i have mountain bikes, a roadie and a touring bike. New to this site but not new to cycling, never stopped since i was a kid really (31 now), just got more expensive toys!

I live in Lancashire by the way and often ride the new trails at Lee quarry but prefer XC rides really. Always ride to work and love to be messing with my bikes. I am on other forums aswell but this 1 looks better for the touring side of my cycling obsession/hobbie

Thats all folks
