Hi all,

Joined up after lurking for a week or two. Started cycling recently after many years and enjoying it, especially with the great weather recently.

Eep, was I supposed to post here instead of start my own thread  I won't repeat myself, but I'm 28, live in Chorley (Lancs) and am a total novice to cycling!

Hi,

I'm Chris (male - just in case anyone was unsure), I am 53 years old, and I have just rediscovered cycling after many years of using the car instead!

In my 20's, I owned a Raleigh BSA Weekender and for many years used it to commute across London about a 20mile trip twice per day, but I could cycle faster than it took on the train! At the time I didn't have a car so apart form public transport it was my only form of transport and much loved.

Sadly, once I got a car (having a family makes you do that) the Weekender went ( I do/did miss it.

Now I have recently got a new cycle (a nice light weight alloy Globe Vienna 2), which is now used to commute to work only about 2.5 miles, but hey, I'm not as young as I used to be and I work so far away as I used to.

I got the Vienna last Sept as part the cycle to work tax scheme, and the legs, heart, lungs are once again starting to work the way they used to :o)

So now, my wife has decided she should start cycling, So last weekend we purchased from the booty a 'Probike Discovery' ladies bike for her - which is in excellent condition considering we only paid £18 for it! A few evenings spent replacing the brake pipes, and adjust the 3 speed hub, and it is running brilliantly!

I really have been bitten by the bug again, someone has this week offered me 2 BSA Wayfarer frames (one gents one ladies) and wheels - they need a lot of maintenance, but I am seriously considering accepting these and restoring them to their original beauty and using them as weekend and holiday cycles.

ok enough waffle I guess... looking forward to chatting/meeting other members on here.

Chris.

Hi all,

I'm William and I live in Plymouth. I'm a "serious" cyclist in that I prefer to cycle rather than drive, but I don't do racing and I'm neither a roadie, nor a gnarly off-roader, which I suppose make me seem not at all like a "serious" cyclist! :-)

I have a blog, http://willcycle.blogspot.com, in which I mostly write about cycling in and around Plymouth, and I'm slowly building up a fairly good resource about the Plym Valley Trail and Drake's Trail. These two routes link together to provide a very nice cycle route from Tavistock, through Yelverton, all the way to Plymouth. Most of the route is on decent, tarred surface off-road and traffic free paths, and form part of National Cycle Route 27 (the Devon Coast to Coast route).
If there is anything you want to know about either trail, then please feel free to ask me, on my blog.

I cycle all through the year, pretty much regardless of the weather.

Look forward to chatting with you all.

William

Hello Cyclechatter's......
I have been plucking up courage to make my first post since I registered days and days ago so here goes.

I cycle to and from work 5 days a week = 18 miles a day
Like cycling round parks but don't like busy roads and bus drivers or lorry drivers come to think of it, and I absolutely hate roundabouts.
There are so many 'bullies' out there I've recently been thinking about giving up cycling to work altogether. Then I started reading the Post's on here and got some inspiration and felt better realizing that I don't suffer alone.

The organised rides sound fun and I like reading the banter on Colin J's spot and love the humour and friendliness of it all. 'Tea' is soooooo funny sometimes I actually find myself laughing out loud.

Anyways, I've finally done it and I've got my first post in. Thank you for having me.

Hello everyone

New here and first post, so please be gentle

I recently moved to North Hampshire from East Renfrewshire

slowly finding some good runs in the local area

main reason I joined to find fellow cyclists to join on runs..and a wee bit of idle chat

I am 48 and ride around 28 miles twice a week (2 hours ...i was never quick ;0)))

expect to have some time on my hands in next 8 weeks and looking to step up distances and frequency as i need to lose about 20 lbs.

Today I was heading from Hook down to Warnborough area and despite doing some good warm up stretches... early ride felt a tightness in right quads then about 3 miles in felt tightness then pain on my left quads

not breathless, not sweating and no shortness of breath or tiredness ...my first run for 7 days and had been pushing it hard last week with only normal mild muscle pains

now I am worried this pain in both quad groups will restrict my bike time

anyone any ideas what caused this and how i can get moving again?

thanks

Hello!

I don't know really how to start a first post but I think I should introduce myself first.
I'm a 26 year old woman from Germany and I'm in the UK for about 1 1/2 years and now in Wiltshire since last september. Since I moved away from Germany I didn't go on my bike so often anymore which is really sad because before the move I've done a lot mountain biking. At the moment I keep myself fit with running but I also want to go back on the bike. And maybe I will find some people here which I can join.
If you read my post and you're living in the near of Devizes please don't hesitate to contact me. I would be really glad! I am also interested in some mtb events like 24h races in a team.

Hope to hear from some of you!

Greetings, mtb-girl. I was down your way riding off road a few weeks ago, I rode along the Kennet & Avon canal from Pewsey to Reading and then on to Windsor. Did you bring your bike over here?

:hello: Welcome also T1TGA, Hook, Kap and all the others who have joined since I was last on this thread. :becool:
