Hi Shaun,

Just redescovered cycling after 30 years of motoring!

Bought a bicycle a few days ago, then fell off it within 10 minutes of a test ride!

Don't know how to use the gears, they're a bit differerent from a car. Advice please!

Start a thread in the Beginners section about it. You'll need to tell what sort of gears and shifters you have for the best advice, but they're probably derailleurs and brifters these days (rather than my beloved hub and lever ;-) )

Hello,

So you've signed-up, got your user account, now all you need to do is get posting .... ah, um, er, What do I say?

Well, it's dead easy - just say Hello and tell us a little bit about yourself and whereabouts you're from (so we can invite you along to rides!!)

Believe me, once you get that first post under your belt you'll be off!

My name's Shaun by the way, and I own and operate CycleChat.

If you need any help or advice on using the forums, or want to ask a question but don't want to do it publicly - just send me a PM (private message).

Hope you enjoy, and welcome to CycleChat

Cheers,
Shaun

Hello * waves* My name is Lisa and I have been a keen cyclist for about 3 years, I commute to work most days, it's only a round trip of 14 miles but it beats sitting in traffic! I'm a runner at heart then took up Triathlon and soon realised how much I love cycling. On a good week I can notch up 150 miles. I'm a plodder and crap at hills but hey someone has to be at the back of the pack. I'm part of a ladies cycling group, Lancaster Cycle Bunnies, we even have our own kit as you can see below. We have cycled The Way of The Roses together, and we have an annual trip at Easter when we cycle from Lockerbie back to Lancaster via Gretna and Penrith. This year I'm taking on lots of fundraising events to help a very close friend raise £100,000. Two of them include cycling, the first one was a 24 hour turbo session in my local Asda, which I did two weeks ago. I clocked up 416.2 miles in 24 hours and raised just short of 5k. My legs were fine but my God my bits were battered! lol The second event is in June when I and 3 others will cycle non stop from London Tower to Blackpool Tower. ( There is a thread on here about it).

Hi everyone!
I'm new to cyclechat and hoping to be an active member of the cycling community. I recently started road biking and love it! I am hoping to do the London-Brighton ride in the summer and would be great to get some training advice. I am based in Stanmore, NW London so if anyone is coming by this way give me a shout. If there are any regular riders in this neck of the woods, it would be great to go for some rides together (although not sure I'll be able to keep pace  ).
Cheers
Rakesh

Hi Rakesh,

We're a group of 7 to 9 local cyclists in Stanmore, mostly dads of kids at Stanburn School. We're informally called ourselves the Bombay bicycle club and cycle most weekends. See our add in the harrow times, stanmore and get in touch. Looking for any local community cyclists to join us. Everyone welcome!!
