Hello! I'm Dave and I'm from the North (although you might have guessed that...)

Just getting back into cycling after a 20 year gap and loving every minute so far. Even being out in the rain and wind this afternoon :cold:

Hello,

So you've signed-up, got your user account, now all you need to do is get posting .... ah, um, er, What do I say?

Well, it's dead easy - just say Hello and tell us a little bit about yourself and whereabouts you're from (so we can invite you along to rides!!)

Believe me, once you get that first post under your belt you'll be off!

My name's Shaun by the way, and I own and operate CycleChat.

If you need any help or advice on using the forums, or want to ask a question but don't want to do it publicly - just send me a PM (private message).

Hope you enjoy, and welcome to CycleChat

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi, I'm Mike from Sheffield. Due to my hernia playing up I can not run at the moment so I have purchased a bike for commuting to work in order to stop from getting fat. I don't particularly enjoy cycling but I'm hoping for that to change so I thought joining the forum and talking with cyclists might help. Please help me to start enjoying the experience. Cycling is hard enough without having to negotiate the rather steep gradients my home city has to offer the unsuspecting cyclist.

Hi @mikemanc Sheffield is severe: hills and potholes  Remember you're not racing up the hills (change down and spin the cranks), see if you can find a flattish route out of the city, stop to look at nice things and consider joining www.sfnr.org.uk

I'm not sure I ever said hello here, so hello! I'm a frustrated touring cyclist, haven't been on my bike since 2010 because of poor health and am going slowly mad. I am also porkins over at yacf, so hello to all those with dual identity. As you can see my pic is of the inestimable Mr Porkins and i look more like him with every year that I don't cycle,

Hi, folks, a new member here, calling from the foothills of the Pyrénées, Saint Jean Pied de Port in France. Beautiful, spectacular, wonderful cycling country

I'm relatively new to road cycling, having been a frequent VTT cyclist a while ago back in the UK. I started to get serious last year, going from 30km social rides with OnVaSortir to full days in the mountains, 80 to 100km, 1500 to 2500m climb. I have not yet got fit enough for French club cycling, I can do the distance (well, once I've sloughed off winter..) but can't manage the speed. I have a Giant Defy composite, with mountain gears recently fitted, an absolute boon for 15 to 20% ups (over-parity, 36 back 34 front, I believe, but I haven't counted them, I just pointed to the nice big cog set in the shop!).
