Hello everyone just got back into cycling after many years just vegetating, currently have a mtb a Raleigh Max Cromo 3 View attachment 4148 but will be changing soon to a road bike a Giant Defy 4.
I have been using a website called trainingpeaks.com to create my own routes and up to now have managed a 20 mile ride.
I am from Blyth Northumberland and looking to join a cycling club in the Blyth area any advice would be greatly received.

Welcome to everyone from a relative newcomer to the bug. If you have questions to ask, it would be better to post them on the appropriate threads in the forum as not everyone checks the newbies thread here. I'm sure you will get lots of answers/opinions then!

Hello everyone here. I'm returning to cycling after about seventeen years away. In my teens I rode daily riding a sports bike to school. Years later I rode a Condor racing bike I'd saved from the dustman and restored, to work and back. As I also rode a variety of motorcycles, they began to take pride of place. A couple of years ago, my next-door-neighbour sold his house and moved to London, and asked me to store his Marin hybrid bike for him. Two years later he gave me the bike.

Now I hadn't ridden for years as seventeen years ago we moved here, to a house on a very long a steep hill. Where ever you go, there's this great big hill to get back up. Bit by bit I rode more and with my wife finally retiring from teaching a few weeks ago, (I'd already bought her a Marin bike too) we've decided to ride together at least once a week, mainly to get some exercise (we are now in our 60s) and to see a bit more of our county (Kent), things you miss when we wizz past in a car.

My wife struggled at first but now that I've changed her chunky great MTB tyres for thin road tyres, things are getting easier for her. We're now planning to drive the bikes to Dover and catch the ferry to France to ride a bit over there. As we'll be foot passengers, it should be pretty cheap.

Well that's my story.

Hello from a newbie

Hi Everyone

Just joined the forums....which look really good and should come in very useful.

I've been cycling for a few months after not having been on a bike since I was a teenager.;)

I do the daily commute and the occasional run up to Loch Lomond (Balloch) on my Specialized Rockhopper. I really wish I'd bought the bike years ago, as I'm loving cycling!

I'll be doing my first 'Pedal for Scotland' this Sunday and I'm really looking forward to it.

Cheers and Happy Cycling

Hello, I'm Luke, a 36 year old who rewarded himself with a Ribble road bike after stopping smoking three years ago.

I completed my first sportive at the weekend, the 70km Tour Ride, which I found quite comfortably enjoyable. That was probably a result of having trained with longer rides across Dartmoor and the Forest of Bowland among others.

I hope to see various of you around on this forum.

Just dropping by to say "Hi". I have peeked at the forums in order to try to find the best place to buy a bike in the Preston area. It seemed Wallis bikes in Higher Walton was a good place, so set off on Thursday to visit, only to find they were closed! So, on to Broadgate cycles, guess what? yep, they were closed too. So reluctantly went to Halfords, but couldn't find quite what I wanted. I ended up at Buy a Bike in Charnock Richard. I bought a Claude Butler cycle, now all I have to do is be brave enough to ride it! Wish me luck.

Hello, I'm a newbie. You seem a friendly bunch. I am trying to work out what bike to buy at the moment so I can join you in the saddle. Havent had a bike for 20 years, never bought a new one, never had gears. Might take me a while... Want to get fit and lose 2 stone before I get to 40, I hate 'exercise' but love the outdoors and live near the New Forest so thought I'd give cycing a go. Any tips welcome. Janine

Janine, you could drive yourself daft trying to decide which bike to buy. For me the choice wasn't too difficult, I am never going to be riding roughshod over or up mountains and I will never be seen face flat to the handlebars flying along at any sort of high speed lol. I decided a bike that would take me along country paths, bridleways and could also trundle along the road would be fine so a hybrid seemed the best choice. That is only the start though!

The best place to start would probably be either a forum like this one or your local bike shop for advice on what to buy, what size etc.
