Hi all
I'm firstly a running enthusiast but due to a recent injury I've decided to take up cycling to maintain my fitness while I recover but also to give me another avenue of exercise.

Hello Woody from Barnsley
I ride a Kona hei hei
specialized big hit
giant racing bike
and recently purchased a cube ams
not to mention a nice tandem for me and our lass.

Hello from Taunton Somerset! I am a newbie with serious problems using Forums as I never understand how they work! This space appears to be the only place on the "New to CycleChat? Make your first post here and say HELLO" page. However - to me - it looks as if I am posting on ScotiaLass's 'wall'??! If so, I do apologise and please advise me what to click on in order to make a general post under the heading just mentioned! Oh dear - sorry about all this!

Anyway - I am interested in finding some cycle companions from this neck of the woods. You lot all seem to come from up North! Ultimately I'm looking for a small group of people to do the LEJOG with (April 2015) (and have posted under that Forum heading also) but... that's for later. At the moment I'm doing 30-mile rides - mostly pretty hilly as the Quantocks and Blackdowns are a tad difficult to avoid around here! Obviously I will be increasing that as the year goes on. I have a Marin road bike and my average speed over 30 miles is around 11-12mph. Please get in touch if this sounds of interest to you - thanks!

Hello to all...

This is my second post on the forum, I have kinda gone the wrong way round and what not. Anyway.

Screen name FelixStarsofsky, real name Oliver. I'm a Royal Marine Commando who has just come back to Afghanistan after 2 weeks R&R with my fiancee in Devon. I didn't leave without doing the typical guy thing and "P" the missis off my spending £330 of our wedding money on a nice shiny new Carrera Gryphon (with bling dics brakes haha) from Halfords. Despite my best efforts to convince her that it was a good move because I was saving £70 all she could manage was that terrifying look only a woman can give a guy that can put a guy well and truly back in his box. Now I am back in Afghanistan, she is probably spending a fortune on shoes and whatever else (some <--- keeping it P.C.) women like to spend thier money on.
I have not actually ridden the bike yet and I have to wait a few months until i leave here to do that, but the thought of it is pure morale! Halfords seems to get a bit of stick from what I have heard but the service i got was ok and although wee lad who initially served me was obviously on his first week of an after school part time job by the way he was causing havoc on the till, the guy who was running the show was very helpful and apart from not paying for the bike itself, could not have done more to help me. Hopefully the bike will not fall to bits on its maiden voyage to the local Co-op.
I intend to use it to commute to and from work whilst getting my daily phys cracked at the same time as well as hairing around on the roads between Taunton and Exeter. On my time off after Afghan, i was thinking about taking a week or so out to cycle from my mums up in Scotland to my home in Devon. I had thought about going the other way but I have it in my head that because I will be cycling south, it will be more downhill that up hill! Silly man I hear you mutter haha!
Well its dinner time over here so I'm away to have some delightful rice and peas. Yum.
Take care, Oliver

Hi all, I took up cycling 2 years ago to rebuild my strength after cancer. Just done my first 50K charity ride. My bike is a Carrera Subway limited edition. Just love cycling but prefer a upright riding style so no roadie for me.

Hi all, I've just joined.

Fairly new to road cycling having got a bike last September. Completed to Etape Caledonia last week and have signed up for a few more rides this year. I'll be looking to pick people's brains about training etc as I'm looking to try and get a bit faster.

Anyway, thanks for having me.

Hi all, just joined.

Managed to ask a question before the 'hello' post so a bit a5r3 about face as they say...! 60 at the end of Jan next year and started cycling in earnest 5yrs ago when I started working in Amsterdam. Thankfully have a wonderful and very supported wife :girldance: who I can honestly say lets me indulge in my hobby without complaining, well not in earshot that is!!

Hi from North Somerset
I've just started cycling again after a gap of 39 years as I have bit more time currently being between jobs. In that time have been on one or two outings on the ancient bike I built aged 14 but have bought a Trek 1.1 which is a bit different from an old steel framed bike, also now experiencing traffic from a different view point.
Went out today for 7 miles and enjoyed quite a bit of it and pulse rate has now returned to near normal.
If anyone is in the vicinity of Portishead and does not want to cycle too far or fast would like to meet up.
Hoping for some fitness to arrive soon.
