Hi Everyone,

I'm from Staffordshire and very new to cycling. I have commuted to work for the last couple of years of a Carrera Subway 1 hybrid but it's only a 12 mile round trip and I fancied something more challenging so I entered the Brewood Cycle Challenge 50k ride with absolutely no idea whether I was capable of riding 50k or not !!

I have recently bought a Carrera TDF as my first road bike (I didn't want to spend too much on my first bike, hopefully if I'm still doing this in a couple of years I'll upgrade to something better) and I am now cycling 35 miles every weekend. I'm struggling a little with climbing although I suspect thats more to do with fitness than the bike but I am absolutely loving it.

Hello,

So you've signed-up, got your user account, now all you need to do is get posting .... ah, um, er, What do I say?

Well, it's dead easy - just say Hello and tell us a little bit about yourself and whereabouts you're from (so we can invite you along to rides!!)

Believe me, once you get that first post under your belt you'll be off!

My name's Shaun by the way, and I own and operate CycleChat.

If you need any help or advice on using the forums, or want to ask a question but don't want to do it publicly - just send me a PM (private message).

Hope you enjoy, and welcome to CycleChat

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi Melv, Good to hear you've taken up cycling. How are you finding the TDF? I'm on my second now...

Its difficult to say as its my first road bike since I was at school so I haven't got a lot to compare it to. I'm enjoying riding it which is the main thing, it's hard getting up some of the hills I'm going up now and I know the gearing on the TDF doesn't help with that but I suspect that is more to do with fitness than the choice of bike.

Hello everyone,

My name in Niki, I'm an American living in Switzerland. I joined because I'm looking for some advice on buying, and potentially updating a bike, but I want to be sure I don't bite off more than I can chew.

Hello Shaun,

My name is Brad Done. I've been casually cycling since my teen years, and thinking about starting to travel to work by bike. So, I'm hoping to immerse myself in the bike web culture and see where all this takes me.

I work in Surrey, B.C., and reside in Delta, B.C. near Watershed Park where I like to ride with my kids.

Thanks for letting me in.....

Hi all, I am a hobby cyclist who loves nothing better than a ride along a river to a pub, and back again, regardless of the weather! I live near wivenhoe in Essex, which has a lovely river, (the Colne) and several lovely pubs, so I'm a lucky boy! Also within reach are Brightlingsea with its lovely ropewalk and disused Railway routes, and the Dedham vale so lots to enjoy! I haven't been out as much as I used to since the boys (5 and 3) were born, but as they get more confident on their bikes we will venture further out ( than the park!) this summer. I don't pretend to know much about what's what in biking, but I have 3 bikes, my late father's Raleigh Record Sprint racing bike, ( I think that's what it's called..), and 2 old mountain bikes, a trusty old Marin Bear Valley from '91 which I saved from scrap, and my usual bike, a mid-late nineties Claud Butler Cape Wrath, which has covered over 7000 miles in my hands (since '03) and lord knows how many before that!
My main reason for stumbling across your forum was that I was looking for a little advice on directions..
I have to get to Plumstead in London (SE 18) tomorrow. I would like to take the opportunity for a ride rather than go all the way by train, so I was wondering if anybody coyuld tell me the best route to take to get from Stratford Station to Plumstead? I realise I mustn't go thru the Blackwall tunnel, and I will have a couple of hours free to bimble along, so could anybody advise where to go, or perhaps rather where not to go?
Thanks in advance
D. Giraffe

Hi, taken up cycling to lose weight (I'm about 5'11 and 20 stone) and commuting 3 or 4 times a week now ~5 miles each way. Got the cycling bug

Hi, taken up road cycling to lose weight, get fit and get faster. Into my third week and have the bug. Not going too far at the moment around 10/15 miles. Aged 52, a tad under 6 ft, and was 16st 5 three weeks ago. Down to 15st 7 already. Truck driver by profession. Aiming for 30 miles this coming Sunday. Bought a Carrera Virtuoso, changed tyres (Gatorskins) and pedals already. Saddle next.
