Hello everyone, my name is Steve, and I'm from Manchester, and I am a brand new member. I actually joined CC last Friday, but have had a devil of a job trying to make my first post, so I have re-registered under another name, and email address now.
I have been watching CC for a while now, and feel I want to get involved, and ask some advice if that is O.k with you all.
up until recently, I have owned a really cheap MTB, which I have used mainly for use on the road, and some off road cycling. I started around May 2012, and have steadily built up to a "reasonable level of fitness, with a great deal of scope for improvement", but I really enjoy biking around, and it is here to stay with me (or until my health allows at any rate!).
I recently purchased a road bike (a racer as we used to call it), it is strictly entry level at this point, which suits my needs at the moment. It is a cheapie, It cost £300.00, and my early impressions are very good, how much easier it is to ride on the road, but onviously not as comfortable as a MTB.
My concern however, and here is where I need some advice from the more experienced cyclists, is the narrowness of the tyres, and how easy is must be to get a puncture. If i'm driving say 20 miles away, and get a puncture, it's a hell of a walk back home with a lame bike.
Should I be upgrading the tyres to a more expensive, but sturdier tyre, or does it just not work that way?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have been told about a tyre inflator off one person I know, but he really isn't a keen cyclist, just wondered if this does any permanent damage to the tyre or rim?
Thanks, Steve.
