Hiya Derek - Welcome aboard

Nothing "lame" about it! It sounds like you have come to the right place... the folk here are more than happy to share their expertise. I would suggest putting the specific question in the main Beginners forum (for more visability). I'd post the same question here.

Triples may require a different bottom bracket, front mech and maybe rear mech. I don't think converting to a triple is as simlple as replacing the chainset... More technical members will help soon, no doubt

Cheers,
SD

oops didnt see this!
anyway...new here, mainly into mtb's but sorely lusting after a new road bike...currentley own a tricked out Santa Cruz Heckler, Brodie Holeshot "freeride" hardtail ( last of the good Canadian made Easton ones ), Trek 8000 mtb commuter, a super rare SE OM Flyer weird 26" wheeled BMX cruiser/MTB lovechild, and a couple of vintage ladies bikes im slowly restoring ( ones a 1940's German " Panther Dammenrad"...a peach!)

other than bikes im into good beer, decent clobber and 60's Soul/Jazz/Ska and Skinhead Reggae!

I commute from Glossop into Hyde(Greater Manchester) its about a 10 mile round trip. My new hybrid is out at the moment with a buckled back wheel so I am on my battered old MTB which is heavy going up some of the hills. I'll get some pictures up soon.
