Hello,

So you've signed-up, got your user account, now all you need to do is get posting .... ah, um, er, What do I say?

Well, it's dead easy - just say Hello and tell us a little bit about yourself and whereabouts you're from (so we can invite you along to rides!!)

Believe me, once you get that first post under your belt you'll be off!

My name's Shaun by the way, and I own and operate CycleChat.

If you need any help or advice on using the forums, or want to ask a question but don't want to do it publicly - just send me a PM (private message).

Hope you enjoy, and welcome to CycleChat

Cheers,
Shaun

Thinking of making a transition to road bike myself but not just yet. My mountain suits me down to the ground and I can take it on all terain

My MTB is lovely (Specialized Myka) and I do enjoy my off road rides, however that only happens every other Sunday. All other days I have to road cycle on a mountain bike which is not exactly ideal I'm afraid..

Hi Shaun,
I live in East Bristol and have been cycling since I was about 7 years old and even cycled from Bristol to Birningham aged 12, with a mate, where we stayed in a youth hostel on the way, near Stow on the Wold and CleeveHill (near Cheltenham )on the way back.. I have always had a bike but have been into motorbikes ever since I could get a licence , but I am now returning more to pedal power for fitness and fun,. I have a Cannondale Synapse as a road bike and a Specialized Sirrus hybrid for getting about town(having had my faithful Ridgeback stolen a few months back..Grr.. There you go. First post over.. Thanks for the forum.. Saxmo

Hello to all...

This is my second post on the forum, I have kinda gone the wrong way round and what not. Anyway.

Screen name FelixStarsofsky, real name Oliver. I'm a Royal Marine Commando who has just come back to Afghanistan after 2 weeks R&R with my fiancee in Devon. I didn't leave without doing the typical guy thing and "P" the missis off my spending £330 of our wedding money on a nice shiny new Carrera Gryphon (with bling dics brakes haha) from Halfords. Despite my best efforts to convince her that it was a good move because I was saving £70 all she could manage was that terrifying look only a woman can give a guy that can put a guy well and truly back in his box. Now I am back in Afghanistan, she is probably spending a fortune on shoes and whatever else (some <--- keeping it P.C.) women like to spend thier money on.
I have not actually ridden the bike yet and I have to wait a few months until i leave here to do that, but the thought of it is pure morale! Halfords seems to get a bit of stick from what I have heard but the service i got was ok and although wee lad who initially served me was obviously on his first week of an after school part time job by the way he was causing havoc on the till, the guy who was running the show was very helpful and apart from not paying for the bike itself, could not have done more to help me. Hopefully the bike will not fall to bits on its maiden voyage to the local Co-op.
I intend to use it to commute to and from work whilst getting my daily phys cracked at the same time as well as hairing around on the roads between Taunton and Exeter. On my time off after Afghan, i was thinking about taking a week or so out to cycle from my mums up in Scotland to my home in Devon. I had thought about going the other way but I have it in my head that because I will be cycling south, it will be more downhill that up hill! Silly man I hear you mutter haha!
Well its dinner time over here so I'm away to have some delightful rice and peas. Yum.
Take care, Oliver
Hey Oliver...I've just realised this post is over 3 years old!!...Well my real name is also Oliver!..I trust you have survived Afgahnistan unscathed and are enjoying married life and maybe having time to ride your bike a bit more. Have you done the Scotland Devon thing yet? If not. you would be more than welcome to have a bed/floor for the night in Bristol to break up the journey if neded? Take care...Ollie

Hi
I'm fairly new to cycling - early morning rides are the only exercise that fits in with my busy working life. I have a hand-me-down bike (4th one in my life - never had a new one). Might be looking for a new bike for my next (big) birthday - may be looking for some suggestions from members here.
Love and light and all things groovy

Hi people

Just getting back into cycling more regularly and for longer rides although I've always been using my bike for shopping and local errands and the like.

I used to enjoy cycle camping around this country a few years ago and I'm hoping to get back into doing some of that when it's slightly less wet and I've got a bit fitter!

Bye for now then

New member just saying hello! Love cycling - watching and riding - but main cycling is through commuting. Just trying to decide on what new bike to get having been riding the wrong size for the past 3 years and wondering why its so uncomfortable!

Hi y'all. I'm not exactly new but I've had a change of handle since my first efforts on here a while ago. Joined the Cyclechat cyclelog group so busy clocking up a few miles for the team. Love touring although I've just caught the TDF-Wiggo.cav virus and have bought an el cheapo road bike to join in the fun. I've got to say it makes a nice change from plodding about on a fully loaded tourer.

Hi there,
I have lurked here for a few months and posted occasionally. I'm finally taking cycling more seriously than I used to in the past.

I was wondering if there was group from this forum in the Milton Keynes area, who may want to meet up for a pseudo leisurely ride?

Hi, Im Mark, im 42 and I live in Sussex. I have just this year got back into cycling after a 25 year...err... rest lol I have a mountain bike at the mo but want to get a road bike as well so I can keep riding during the winter months (looking at getting a turbo trainerfor this) and then get out on the tarmac when the weather gets good again (god knows when that will be??). SInce March this year I have lost over 2 stone in weight which is a big thing for me as I do like my food..and I have just done the London to Brighton off road bike ride which surprised my mates and the missus, who were the reason I got back on a bike after them saying I was a tad lardy and unfit...which to be fair i was......but I have to say I never felt better!
