A fun game - when in the Dartford Tunnel, squirt your windscreen washers full on and shout, "oh my God, it's leaking!"

Yeah, right. That's what they said in 2014 and it failed to materialise. Let's stick to tunnels, shall we? We can leave the politics to the lying and the incompetent self servers, both North and South of Hadrians Wall.

..... and back to tunnels.

AFAIK the only underwater road tunnel to accept cyclists in London is Rotherhythe.
"hard" cyclists use it on a daily basis, built by Brunel for the horse and carriage traffic, so the slopes are not too steep.
It's bi-directional and not much winder than a Cornish Lane, and will take a 7 tonne lorry and single deck buses
It's about half a mile long with several twists and turns, you either need the ability to hold your breath for 4 minutes or take your own oxygen

The FNR's have done the tunnel a few times. After midnight so not a lot of traffic. Even then you come out of the tunnel tasting fumes.

It's now only open to cars but it's still poisonous down there.

As tilbury is only ten miles away from me i have often thought of taking the ferry to gravesend but i'm not sure where to go once i am in gravesend?.Are there some nice scenic places nearby?

Dover port and the Eurotunnel Bike Service departure point are both about 60 miles away from Gravesend for all your continental cycle tour departure needs? ;)

As it's going to be a tunnel then either: Cycling/walking will be banned (most probably), or it will be so utterly horrible that no one in their right mind will cycle/walk there.

So the only hope for continued Kent-Essex fraternisation is that either the Gravesend ferry survives, or they introduce a shuttle thing like at the Dartford crossing.
Is Kent Essex fraternisation a desirable thing? Another crossing will only facilitate mass migration into Kent...
