I note the AA showing its true pro-motoring anti-cycling colours by lobbying for it with its president Edmund King making a misleading comparison between the 37 bridges over the non-estuarine Seine in Paris (275 miles upriver) and the Thames in London (only 50 miles upriver).

The new Queensferry crossing over the Forth is motorway only.
But the older Forth road bridge isn't far from it and it's now basically a bus and cycle lane with pavements.

Is this new crossing going to be another subsidy for London and the south east , paid for by the rest of us ?

Why not? The region accounts for 37.7% of GDP, so it's not like then other 11 regions in the UK can argue they're subsiding them.

I'm dead against it, but I'll try and stick to factual reasons for speaking out against it.

Theres absolutely nothing to stop them putting a cycle tunnel in, but they wont. View attachment 433456
Has this design been used elsewhere? Looks like a very efficient way of utilising existing bores, effectively space for 'free'.
Although I should think those spaces could be fairly nasty (and noisy?) places if not designed for that use.

I've got a pal who worked on the Darford Tunnel road deck replacement about 20 years ago - will have to get his thoughts on this.

London’s thriving economy generates a £26.5bn surplus that is recycled by the government to provide financial help to Britain’s less well-off regions, according to an official breakdown of the public finances.

That's the existing Clyde tunnel in Glasgow.
So the design must be over 60 years old.
I was through it this morning.

Off topic , but Scotland isn't a region of anywhere.

Just found some web discussions of the Clyde tunnel bike lane, and headcam vids. Looks surprisingly clean and bright so could be a good solution, although an LTC equivalent would be 5x longer and considerably deeper - something like 40 meters down... And up. Perhaps a niche cycle route for the dedicated and eccentric. How does strava cope with tunnels?

The Snoqualmie Tunnel in the USA is 3.6km long, but that's through hill, so we could be world-leaders in underwater cycle tunnels, if only HE had some vision!

If the Clyde tunnel is unique-ish re it's under road cycle/pedestrian tunnel, what is normally in that space under the road? More ventilation? Filled up with aggregate? Tarnished 1980's celebs from the world of entertainment?
