Very much a slightly older style of bike for me. Beutiful straight steel tubes with lugs for preference. I got interested in cycling really in the 80s and still have a nostalgic penchent for the racers (what we called road bikes in the olden days) of that era. My first proper 12 speed was the Raliegh team panasonic replica (the very cheapest version they did) though what I really wanted at the time was the beutifulm Raliegh record sprint.

Although some modern bikes look ok I have come to absolutely detest all the writing and garbage that seems to be printed and painted on to them these days. A modest nod to the manufacturer is all that is needed. When people buy a car they don't usually go for one done up in all the latest rally colours for that manufacturer and I don't see why it is any more atractive on bikes unless of course it is for bragging rights and to show everybody else exactly what you are riding.

I think the next bike I get will be red. Or Yellow, I haven,t decided. And really if I was going to put anybodys name on my things it would be my own bloody name.

To sumarise. Old for me with a minimum of livery.

I think my next bike project (after the heap of s**t BSO I'm having to put together for now) will be an old steel frame road bike, turned to single speed I imagine.
Got a clear idea of how I wanna do it color scheme etc. Light/pea green with white wheels, tires, bar tape and brake cables, silver/metal levers and cranks etc, white saddle. Lovely.

This, so this. Many beautifully sculpted bikes are hidden under the most garish decals, sadly.

Agreed. When i was looking for my first new roadbike, i looked at several manufacturers. I was quite taken with an Orbea...but the paintjob made it look like someone had puked all over it  . I passed on it

I prefare the look of an old bike, but as I remember my first racer in the 70,s, a 5 spd Raleigh Carlton Corsa when I was 13 yrs old. I would love to drop on one again for nostalgic reasons.

I prefer the more retro-look. Don't like huge decals plastered everywhere, not a fan of chunky frames either really. My steel beauty will still be going strong after 100,000 miles.:becool:

Just to be controversial is it that the flashy carbon sits well with those that ride in garish trade team kit and tend to do a certain type of ride that is making lots of money for the organisers, it's just so so........American

Increasingly liking the retro stuff, and it is starting to stand out more.
