I had the loan of an Explosif for a bit, when my rockhopper was being upgraded, and fell in love with it but never had the spare bunce or the pass from swmbo to buy one. The new steel kona's do make me dribble and I love the look of the unit.

my singlespeed is a mid 90's Kilaluea. I try to ride it every day, even if just around the block, because it just makes me smile even though it is just a hooligan shopping/pub bike really; you know where you go out of your way en route to the shops to ride down 'that' flight of stairs. Dreadful behaviour from a fifty-year-old. Pepople look at it, completely unrestored and a total bitsa and must think "what a piece of crap" but it knows, and I know, and just occassional a fellow grey hair knows.

What modern steel frames come closest to the spririt of the out-and-out XC race bike that was the Explosif or the all-day-on-the-trails XC non-race bike that was the Kilaleua?
