Hey guys,

Im wondering if anyone can give me some feedback as i don't know all that much about what makes a bike decent.

I currently have a MuddyFox Hustle which i use to get to work and back,Its been a good bike but the back wheel started wobbling slightly and we initially thought there was something wrong with the bar that goes through the Centre of the wheel rim or the bearings,So i took it into the local bike shop and they were unable to repair it and could not get hold of a new Tyre rim for my bike. :/

So other than contact Muddyfox about a new Tyre rim (which i think will be £££) and thats if they even will sell me one,I will probably be needing a new bike. :/

So what bike should i be looking at for my budget of £200-£280 ish?

Id like a decent one this time though,Not one with cheap custom parts like Muddyfox did so if anything goes wrong with it in the future your stuffed.

appreciate the help.

There's nothing on a bike that can't be repaired so don't give up on your Muddy Fox. There's a lot of value in an old, much used and well-repaired bicycle in good working order. You won't get much for £280 so if you like the bike, stick with it and buy it some new wheels. Even a non-matching front and rear rim isn't too bad. If you lived near me I would rebuild your wheel with a new rim, good as new.

(Your bike shop were not unable to repair it, they were unwilling. Find a better bike shop.)

You dont need to buy a new bike. I would try taking your bike to a different shop and see what they say. It should be fairly easy for any bike shop to get a new wheel for you and to install it. I certainly wouldn't expect to pay more than £100 for a new wheel and for them to fit it.

Well what happened is i took the bike in,They said its a problem with the wheel itself but wont know exactly whats wrong with it until they take it apart so i left the wheel with them,2 days later went back and they said they could not do it because the metal they used on my bikes rim is cheap...i think in other words they were saying it was a crap bike (well compared to what they had in their store anyway)..i think youre right in saying they were unwilling.

Not sure what its called but he was saying this part circled in red was the problem,He said its no good and that was it basicly..

£100 for a new wheel?

Id rather put the cash to a new bike to be honest,he reckoned i nthe bike shop that if he could have got a new wheel rim it would cost about £30,But he could not get hold of that speficic rim for my bike.

you could well get one for £50 (including install). it depends what wheel you go for.

Just walk in to any decent local bike shop and you will see loads of unwanted wheels hanging from the ceiling. Amongst them will certainly be a wheel to suit your bike, which the owner will probably sell you for a bargain price.

Did the shop not explain the problem with your wheel? It sounds as if they fobbed you off in the same way as garages fob my elderly Mum off over her car in the hope of selling her another one.

PS: The bit you circled is called the hub by the way. Inside the hub is the axle, which is what fits in the dropouts in the frame. Hubs don't break very often but they sometimes need adjusting or a new axle and bearings fitting, which is a fiddly and frustrating job that a mechanic might refuse to do if he thinks it isn't worth his while.

Try the Carrera range of bikes from Halfords .. I fully recommend the Carrera Subway 2 with a decent spec for the price.

I really have to disagree with you. I would never recommend (even partially) buying ANYTHING from halford. I had major problems with a carrera bike I purchased, took it back several times to be repaired and ended up getting it refunded. Never purchased a bike from them again but still thought it would be ok to buy stuff like tools and inner tubes etc. As it turns out they cant even sell a decent bicycle pump. Had trouble with more than enough other items purchased from halfords. You trust them if you want to but I warn you of my experience with them.

Exact happened to mine when I had it. Take it to a bike repair shop and they'll fix it for you for about £10-30. The bolts were not tight enough when they were done up at the factory.

Take it back to the same store and ask to see the manager.
They seem to be trying to fob you off and what they are saying is a joke.
You really don't need to go spending hundreds of points on a new bike when you could spend so much less just to repair or get a new wheel.

If you really want a new bike, then go ahead and get one.

That was your mistake, taking it back to Halfrauds! for them to fiddle with it, the bike is pretty damn good in general, as I had one for two years and loved it (sold as I upgraded) and many on here rate them too. It doesn't matter who or where you buy the bike from, as long as the product you are buying is good. You could always make the repairs / tweaks yourself or take it to your LBS that you trust to do them for you.
