In the next few day I'm going to build up a new bike - very optimistically against my better judgement (is that an oxymoron) i'm going to fit a hollowtech chainset with a Hope Stainless BB - Over the years I've fitted and maintained old school, cassette and Octolink I BBs but I have no experience of outboard bearing BBs
  1. I assume that if I have bought the right size BB then the chainline will be automatically taken care of?
  2. What tools do I need for fitting the Hope BB - I have a Hope BB spanner - what else just for fitting?
  3. I'm not expecting to maintain it on tour - is that a bit optimistic for a couple of thousand miles?
  4. Any other observations will be welcome

One of these

and it should come with spacers. You choose the spacer according to bb shell size and dérailleur type

And, with two bikes with hollowtech, I won't be buying another, so I hope the Hope is better than the Shimano stuff.

yup - my research seemed to indicate the Shimano BB to be about as good as a chocolate fireguard

erm, I don't recall if they come with the crank or the BB but they come with one of them.

looking at the chainset there doesn't seem to be anything to twiddle

Edit - My mistake - the inside of the crankshaft is threaded for a twiddly bit

The more I think about it the more I think the plastic pre-load cap was part of the chainset not the BB. You do need it, Smiffy, so if you don't have one you need to get one.
