yup - for touring im not convinced wrt discs - I do like the idea of them - the fact that there is no rim wear would be a big plus - but the number of people Ive met on the road that recounted problems over the time they had been on tour - not easy to get good quality steel racks to fit around them -plus the need for a disc specific touring front fork

Spacers are supplied with the BB, not the crank.

I was right to be paranoid about the BB - having gone through all the bits - I have no pre-load cap - non with the Hope BB or the XT Cranks

Now have the preload widget thing - consulting thread to check how many spacers on drive side

It is a fairly easy BB system to fit (with the correct tools) I have fitted a couple to my CX bike over the years so it must be simple

I am a complete tool - so it must be easy

Yup - for the first time ever I am going to do a short shakedown tour - mobile phone for taxi at the ready

(and as an aside I fitted the M+ this morning relatively quickly- without damaging the wheels, the tyres and tubes or me)

I assume I should be able to see about a 5mm gap between the end of the crank spline and the outer face of the crank

The pre-load cap is not seating against the crank face - do I have the wrong length pre-load cap?/

There is only one length pre-load cap. The length should not be an issue.

Loosen the crankarm a bit more then give it a wiggle, make sure that little rubber/plastic thing goes back in place too.
