There are other manufacturers other than Dawes. Personally, unless I intended to tour, I would look at other options. I think they do the Galaxy range supporting loaded cycle touting very well. But, I admit, to not understanding the attraction for Audax specific bikes. An audax bike is essentially the same as a clubman's winter trainer. There are lots of options; Kinesis, Ribble and many others. On my club run, no one has a Dawes, but nearly everyone has a winter bike with guards.

Im getting on very well with my Audax, thank you.

My Dawes Audax 2007 is a supreme.

Eh? My bikes have guards.

Just a quick one Mags, how long did it take from Quote to getting your Voucher...?

I haven't actually arranged that yet. Next time I am in I will get a quote and send it off to Cyclescheme. Hopefully it won't take too long!!

Don't, understand your comment. My comment was to propose that if you wanted a bike with mudguards, you are not limited to the venerable Dawes range.

What's wrong with audax bikes? Almost as fast as a full-on race bike, but with loads more practicality.

Why would a road bike require more maintenance than a hybrid, assuming that's what you meant?

Not having owned anything as expensive as Ultegra I wouldn't know how they compare for longevity against the cheaper end of the range but I suppose the real concern was that 1, if they wear at the same rate they will cost more to replace and 2, cos it's a much better bike you'd want to take more care of it, so it would take more maintenance than my hybrid which tends to be ridden till something goes wrong or starts making a noise.

Anyway it sounds like Mags has got it all sorted and will be keeping the superbike for special occasions (and given me the perfect excuse for being the back marker on the forum rides.)

Agree totally. In an hour or so I will set off to collect my new audax bike that I ordered at the end of October:tongue:
