new bike collected

i originally ordered a boardman (med) 8.6 when i collected it, i noticed a scrape of paint missing on the cross bar, i was offered a new replacement so i decided to pay the difference & get the 8.8 version instead, i collected it today after checking it over, very happy with my choice, a friend was passing on a MB when i set out on it for the 1st time, we are roughly the same height ect, his saddle was set alot taller than mine, i cant believe how high some riders have the seat. it may take a bit of time to get the height of the seat right.

I do wonder if I should drop my seat by a cm or so

I basically got mine as a replacemtn from Raleigh for one that had a design fault and I had returned several time
They took it back and gave me one of the higher model instead
I was so please with the new one that I just got on and rode it

It was only a few weeks later that I realised the seat was higher than normal - hadn;t even noticed until then
and then I was used to it so it is still there

but I do have trouble putting my foot down it I stop and the ground is not level!!
WHich has caused me to fall off at least twice!!!!

With the saddle height set correctly (heel on pedal with leg slightly bent is a good starting point) you're unlikely to be able to reach the ground with your foot while seated. It soon becomes natural to slide off the saddle as you come to a halt.

If you can get more than a toe to the ground while still seated, your saddle is probably too low. (as above)

Since a couple of long-term knee injuries from riding with a saddle that's too low, I only ever ride a bicycle with a high-set saddle these day.
