Going to do a 14mile round trip tomorrow, 7 miles there and back to visit in-laws for a birthday instead of using my car/motorbike.

However, if you're going to do something, then may aswell do it properly!

I am correct, in assuming that it is good practice to have all this stuff delivered to work and not at home? ;)

Well done. My first ride was 6 miles and I tried drinking whist riding and dropped my bottle. I got back home and felt Instantly sick ha ha. But after half hour I wanted to go out again. Endorphins and all that

I'll add my congratulations to the list! From now on, it will either (a) get easier or (b) stay the same but you'll go faster. The important thing is to keep doing it regularly, so that your legs (and lungs) get used to the exertion. Keep the bike in reasonably good condition, too, as a rusty, badly-maintained bike is also tougher to ride.

Well done on your first ride. Mine was 2 miles and I felt sick after

When I first started last year I used to drink loads of water and by the time I got home from work (just under 4 miles but an elevation gain of over 400ft) my bottle would be empty,

Now I only really drink it during the easiest part of the hill and then drink when I get home.

Good luck with the clipless pedals. Hint: set the release tension as loose as they go, and practice unclipping a lot before riding.

Not that I've fallen over 3 times so far when I failed to unclip or anything......

Well done on your first ride:thumbsup:.
That's a decent distance and average speed. Don't try and push it too hard at first and give yourself some rest days now and again to allow your muscles to recover.
Enjoy.

So, tonight was my second ride.

First one at night, and also the first one with the clipless pedals.

After a bit of practice in my street, I felt confident with them, but not for tackling a busy 3 lane motorway roundabout on my planned journey, so I was going to play it safe and walk it across as a pedestrian as I couldn't clip in fast enough to make a quick getaway.

However, I hit the dual carriage way, and spotted another lycra roadie, he seemed to be taking it easy so, I pedalled my hardest to catch him to watch how he handled the busy junctions, so after following him around, I tackled all the busy junctions, so I am very much happy with that progress and another fear put to rest.

I learned that my front light is not bright enough for unlit country roads, but however, I am impressed with the drivers, and the patience in my area at night as all gave me plenty of room

This time, I cycled to in-laws for a birthday which was 6.6 miles, and then had an hour break with a brew, and did 7 miles back home (longer route to stay on lit roads).

the 6.6 miles there, I had to stop as I got a cramp in my left calf, I have a feeling my cleat is set too far back causing me to point my toes when pedalling? and averaged 12.5mph over the 6.6 miles, on the return 7 miles, took it easy and a nice steady pace and averaged 13.1mph on the way back.

Just about to jump in the shower, but what I noticed is how much wildlife I miss out on seeing when I drive the car.

I have lived in or around where I currently do all of my life and only starting noticing things that I never knew existed before I started cycling.

Get to see so much more of our lovely countryside too!
