A sign of the times and changing shopping habits I suppose. Very bad news for the staff and I will miss the shops as I always found Argos gave good service and were convenient.

Soon all that will be left in towns will be over-priced coffee shops.

Did the Irish operation stay independent when the UK lot got taken over by Sainsbury's?

I don't think so. AFAIK Sainsbury's owned it too.

They do indeed own them, Agros has over all been moving away from high street shops for some time it's just too costly.
Ours moved out of town years ago , many are moving into empty space within Sainsbury's stores. I've not used them for years but always check when shopping around. I've always found them to be good at what they do and staff that are on the money.
Argos back room, distribution and same day delivery systems knock the rest inc Amazon out the water. That's what Sainsbury's wanted in the first place and it cost them big time.

Argos in Oban delivers to Mull free of charge. At least they did for a new freezer I got last year.
Many other retailers lose sales because of excessive carriage charges tho' that may be down to the carriers also.
Once in the past we were charged £55 for a parcel from Glasgow southern suburbs. [It was in fact a load of teddy bears for our shop.]
On investigation it cost by MacBrayne Haulage £4.50 from Glasgow to here. The rest was from Glasgow suburb to a central depot charged by a different carrier.

I should the transit cost will be high
What make is it I can't quite read the badge

It's a Cannondale , it is makes "small size" l measured the seat tube an d it is 40cm centre of crank to centre of top tube. The wheels are Mavic X139 rims 559x17 which is 26 x 1.75 / 2.125 Hubs are shimano FH-RM40-8

They are the only ones with Uk wide coverage. A hell of a chunk of money went in to setting it up and it shows.

Another brrrrrrrrrright and chhhhhhhhhhilly day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept well. Did some chores this morning, stoked the fire, and then spent the rest of the morning making a start on turning the wood I hauled in the other day into logs. Had to go and furkle in the garage for some bolts to replace a couple that had gone awol on the saw horse. I think the parental eats them...

Will continue with the sawing up of wood this afternoon. Whether I'll get it finished is another matter, but what I do, I do.

Anyways, it is almost time for luncheon.
