Due to cycle to Whitstable for lunch.

Had to break into the man cave via the roller shutter door. Lock in the side door is jammed. Eventually opened the side door. Removed lock and dis assembled the lock.
There are several springs and bits and pieces.
Oops, all over the work bench. Hope I can reassemble it.

Have to abandon this to meet the cycling deadline. In passing noticed some odd battery figures but in my rush convinced myself I didn't need to change the battery.
Off along the coast to Whitstable. Very pleasant, sunny, wind against me, but bearable.
Meet lunch date and we lunch. Very pleasant.
As I arrived at the cafe my bike kept telling me the battery was low.
Then the bike decided that there was no battery as we set off on the return.
Plan B, get the train.
Pedalled my dead steed to the station. Train home and pedal home.
Without battery it is a leaden, gormless pile of metal.
Now home. Garage lock reassembled, lubricated, reinstalled and working.
Bike is perfect, using the fully charged battery I was supposed to use this morning.
Such is life.

If you do things syruptitiously they taste a lot sweeter!

If an eleven year old child shows a talent for arts and languages, but later on develops a talent for science, can the pupil change schools? Or does each school excel in some subjects but is still extremely good for other subjects?

Schools are pretty high standard in all subjects, with extra specialisation in certain fields. You can, as Middle Son did, go from Gymnasium (Grammar School) to Realschule (Middle School) if the Gymnasium style isn't working, and as Younger Son did, graduate Realschule and go on to a more specialised Gymnasium: he went onto a "Social Gymnasium" so he doesn't have to do another language but has Psychology and Sociology instead.

The payoff of course is that the curriculum tends to be narrower than the UK until after school, when you can specialise more, but there are many, many, more supported options in tertiary education.
