I lived in Jeddah for two years, back in the ..... ..... sixties. I guess it has changed a bit since then.

More than likely... All spiffy modern, especially down on the Corniche, where the race circuit is. (Largely the same circuit as the F1 race, just a tad shorter.)

On another irritating note, the screw down crown of my Eberhard now won't screw down.

I noticed it had popped out yesterday while I was wearing it, and you know, you think "did I screw the crown in after I wound the watch?" So I screwed it back down. But this morning, the crown just kept spinning when I tried to screw it down, so suspect the threads have stripped. Will have to go have a word with Rob the Watchmaker at some point, and hope either he or I can magic a new stem and tube from somewhere.

The crucial bit will be finding out what the base calibre is, although AFAIK Eberhard made their own movements back in the day. This could potentially be tricky.

Botheration.

Physioterrorist thinks I've pulled a muscle and has given me exercises and another appointment next Saturday. She has given me the okay to ride a bike.

You know you're getting old when your new physio looks about 12!

I went to the beach afterwards for a walk. Someone's Range Rover had failed to proceed in a very awkward place, causing a few traffic issues. Considering the cost of the things, if my year-old RR failed to proceed, I would be a trifle annoyed to put it mildly. Stupid thing is even too heavy to push out of the way.

I recall a very dusty town. There was a sort of wide pavement next to an expanse of water. We lived on the fifth floor of a block of flats with my bedroom window level with the top of a Minaret.

I bet you never overslept.

Correct! He used an amplifier of some sort. I was in Iceland many years ago, the country, not the shop! and they were having an Islamic Festival. There is a minaret somewhere in the north of the island, if I recall correctly. The very memorable sound took me back several decades.

I have the invoice for the washing machine (bought from an independent retailer) in 2010, so it is well out of warranty.
The engineer does not charge a call-out fee.

How long have you had your washing machine?

2004. One repair man called it an antique, the next one commented it would last forever subject to spares being available unlike the Chinese made ones of today.
