It's been a chilly, grey, drizzly and miserable day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept reasonably well. Met up with a friend for our weekly dog walk. Was really muddy and squelchy, and just as well I'm still having to wear my old walking boots on account of my bruised foot. The bruising is fading and I'm no longer hobbling, but the arch of my foot and one toe are still a tad tender, and the new (and stiffer) boots are a bit too owie to wear.

Had a lovely luncheon of wholemeal toast with that beautiful smoked trout and a chunk of lovely cave-aged cheddar that I bought on YS in Waitrose, plus some fruit and a :cuppa:

Have moved some more of that wood from the fence and into the garage, and have split another box of logs. Well, when I say box, it's a case that contains enough wood for one day's heating.

I shall be making a big pot of leek & potato soup shortly, as the last pack of the half price leeks I bought on a clubcard offer just before Christmas are beginning to look a bit tired. I *was* hanging on to them, intending to make a turkey, leek & ham pie next week, but better to use them up than have them develop language skills. I need to make a fresh pot of soup anyway, and I can always buy a fresh pack of leek the next time I'm near a supermarket.

Just put out my green wheelie bin (garden / kitchen waste) for collection in the morning. No black bag, as there's nowhere near enough in it to bother.

I should point out that this is the first time I've put anything kerbside for two months.

Are there people on here who work for the NHS? If so, can you try to explain (or agree with me) on a news item? A hospital has been fined £1.6million for mistakes made in a maternity unit.

What is the purpose of this fine? I sort of presume that mistakes were made due to a variety of reasons, such as not enough staff, not enough training for those staff. Paying a fine of this size would mean less to spend on staff and training.

Likely to put a rocket up the (non medical) administration staff affecting their bonus'

Although having been in hospital for a week (twice) having my broken Femur operated on I found the nurses to be extremely lazy leaving most of the actual work to the 'nursing auxiliaries' who ran around like blue-arsed flies.

I was going to ask this but thought it might get banished to the other place. Just means less available to spend on patient care, surely?

The manager is ill; he didn't want to leave, but we ganged up on him and made him go home. This means I had to cancel the "New Staff Information Day" I was supposed to go to tomorrow, because it would have meant one of my colleagues being on her own for much of the day.

As this is at least the third time I cancelled, my colleague is beginning to suspect I don't want to go to the staff information day.
