I am sure that in Hundred Acre Wood, we are on a different timescale. Christmas Day is just that, one day. There is an on-line order to be delivered this afternoon. Monday, the turkey half crown will be collected and some vegetables.

I have ordered some small loaves of more exotic bread, more exotic than the usual sliced variety that the Patient likes, and a box of my favourite chocolates. No extra cheese, nuts, alcohol etc. Am I alone in this approach?

As a young owlet, I was living in countries that do not celebrate Christmas, notably India and Saudi Arabia. Even if you wanted to get presents, there was not the availability, or the money to buy them. This must have coloured my version of Christmas.

The cardboard boxes of decorations are now down from the attic. Bob is taking his responsibilities as Box Inspector very seriously.

Work finished for 2024. Been a horrible cold day turned wet.

does eating making you hungry?

My dog always goes hunting for food after a meal.

Speaking of whom, this is from this morning's walk.

Five weeks of training completed and I probably know less than I did when I started!

All Christmas shopping completed now. It doesn't take very long in my case really.

Back to working at home for the next two weeks so I have to set up the home office again. We still don't know who our manager will be.

I will be going the community Christmas Carol trail later where we call at all the various Church denominations in town (Presbyterian, RC, Methodist, the Gospel Hall and the COI) to sing a few carols and then they serve free mince pies and Christmas pudding in the COI hall at the end.

It's been a grey, breezy and chilly day here chez Casa Reynard.

Did not sleep terribly well again. Morning was spent on chores including some laundry. Skipped luncheon to concentrate on re-stocking logs in the garage on a) account of the incoming rain and b) the log store being empty, so out with the saw horse and chainsaw. Cut up a whole trailer load. Sawdust swept up after - the clean kept to use as cat litter in the tray downstairs, and the mucky stuff dumped in the green wheelie bin.

After, went out on Wiggy #2, the Chartres to deliver the last of the Christmas cards. Really, I should have taken Max the MTB, but he's kind of stuck behind several piles of wood. It started raining when I was furthest away from home, and it's been raining on and off since.

Had a hot bath to thaw out after, as I was a bit cold and wet. Still feel cold and tired.

Had to call into Morrisons a simple in and out shop. It was like a war zone , trolleys stacked high with drivers who have no idea what it's doing or who it's heading for. Staff rushing around stocking up shelves , mostly bothered about getting even more booze onto the shop floor.
At the other end of scale staff busy condensing down the seasonal sections. So looks like no more stuff is coming what left is all they have.
Then called into quality save , walked down what was Christmas stuff and did a double take , it's now full of gardening stuff.
Pushing people into buying earlier and earlier will back fire it's giving people less time to save and suppliers will be on shorter and shorter lead times. They will come a time when they need more stock and the supplies will have moved on to next thing in the supply calendar.

This is why the vast majority of my shopping is already done, and why I leave the running around like headless chickens to others.

I do need some fresh fruit and veg (mainly to take advantage of the seasonal offers), but that's about it. Will be going to Tesco tomorrow evening to coincide with a spot of yellow stickering.

Turned out a better day than expected as the wind has not yet arrived.
Very tired and spent a lot of time asleep.
Did eventually get on to the Calmac website to be told I have no current bookings. This is a bit strange as I have got tickets as well as a booking number.
Some Sunday sailings have already been cancelled according to the text alerts but the web site seem unaware of this.
Par for the course currently and illustrates the chaos we have to put up with.
Washing done and so the machine can rest till I return if I manage to get off before Christmas.

Two days here, because we celebrate Christmas Eve here chez Casa Reynard.

Celebrations here have been pared back to be a lot less faffy compared to when I was little. We're teetotal here, so no alcohol needs acquiring, but I do take advantage of the seasonal offers on stuff, and like to stick to tradition.

Nuts are the ones I've foraged in the autumn, but cheese and charcuterie. Yep, I do get extra in, as well as meat and fish, but then I freeze some for another time. This is a good time to stock up the freezer.
