New experience at work today: Tübingen has public bike stands with a place to hang the bike and a selection of simple tools on cables, so people can fix things like punctures. Today I went out with a team to maintain them. The stands are built like tanks to make vandalism difficult, but they aren't very well thought through, so every simple repair takes hours.

Fortunately, the team were used to this, so we dealt with the situation using some industrial strength sarcasm and by royally taking the pish out of each other.

Team building exercise, then.

It's been a sunny but chilly day here chez Casa Reynard.

Slept well. Met up with one of my besties for a lovely walk with her dogs this morning. What with one thing and another, it's been a few weeks since we last met up, and it was great to just chinwag and set the world to rights.

Had stilton* on toast and a for luncheon.

The afternoon was eaten up by a trip to the big Lidl Huntington to do a spot of festive food shopping. Traffic on the A142 was bloody appalling, so came home via A14 & A10 instead. Irritatingly, their Christmas range is much smaller this year, and so some of the things I went for, they didn't have. Booger. But with a bit of sideways thinking, I managed to get most of what I needed.

I also had a bit of a snaccident in the charcuterie aisle. I picked up a kilo lump of prosciutto for a tenner, 250g of smoked black forest ham for £3.49, and a large tray of cold-smoked loch trout for £7. Whoops!

Soup and a lovely bacon roll for supper.

Now sat watching the snooker.

* this is the last of that whopping lump of stilton I picked up on YS last Xmas. It's kept very well, but is now a bit too strong / salty. So I've mixed some of it with a tub of cream cheese to make a stilton spread, and it is bloody lovely.

We ran out of butter and I was sent to Sainsbury’s and found some ‘I can’t believe it’s not butter’. Got home and tried it and it tastes just like butter, my wife and I can’t believe it’s not butter either.
