I think it depends on the level of license, whether it is:
Technician- Operates domestically only
General- Can operate internationally via radio
Amateur Extra-All bands and modes.

Somewhere I have a radio license but now well out of date. The dive club boat had a radio and several of us were qualified to use it. I also had a radio in my own boat so would have needed one for that anyway. In addition to a written exam we also had an examiner come to test us before we got a license.

Who mentionned sumps in relation to blocked drains? Next the the big drain cover there is a very small one, with a sort of "grid" cover. It takes excess water away from the rain water that falls between the two houses. Could that be the sump that is part of the drain from the kitchen?

Could be as the surface water and wash basins as well as kitchen sink in my case all go into the same sump. Water from roof gutters and surface water will inevitably have some debris so the level of slurry builds up.
The only way to find out is to run a tap in the house and lift the cover to see if water is running in anywhere. A torch would be handy probably. The incoming water should be above the water level in the sump so should be easy to see but it is possible the level is too high.
In my most recent case I noticed that water from the shower was rising around my feet and not draining properly. Going out side I discovered water running down my garden path from the overflowing sump.

A nice sunny day where I live but I could see on the higher ground around that it was still foggy there.
Had a walk from the car park which reminds me that when I lived down there the sun never shone on the house from the end of September till mid February. We were shaded by the hillside behind and had to scrape ice from windscreens while people only a few hundred yards away were walking around in shirt sleeves.
I moved to another area for my walk!
Bulbs are appearing on a bit of ground beside my garden path. Look like bluebells but far too early and certainly not snowdrops. There are some crocus there as well as daffodils but again wrong time of year.

Where abouts are you staying in Whitby, have you climbed the 199 steps yet? This is not advisable with a dog in a pram, I think.

The place I stayed is now the YHA.

I was about to say it’s now a YH , yes we’ve done the steps many times and the abbey. As we are EH members so it’s free we often go up just to get away from the crowds and have are sandwich’s.
We have stayed in Whitby in our camper van a few times. On a pop up site right on the headland opposite the abbey. We are staying in Pickering this week though as we have for many years. So we go on the bus as we have many times. In the past we’ve also gone on the stream train from Pickering.

It's been a lovely sunny day here chez Casa Reynard, although that breeze sure had some bite to it out of the shelter of the trees.

Slept OK-ish although I woke up a few times during the night. It's the getting-back-to-sleep thing that's a pain. Chamomile tea with a pinch of ground ginger seems to be helping with the nausea. Peppermint works too, but too much of it and I find it gives me a sour stomach.

Had a gentle day puttering about doing chores. Walnuts have been decanted from their drying trays into a large hessian sack (I have half a sack), brought some firewood in from a stash near the house so it can be cut up, dropped off the parental's prescription off at the quack (came home the long way round as I hadn't used the car in a fortnight), and turned another batch of tomatoes into a pot of amatriciana sauce for pasta. (Pasta Grannies and Vincenzo's Plate are to blame here LOL!) There's only a small bowl of tomatoes left that still need to ripen. Last year they didn't, and I ended up throwing them out wholesale...

Did not win anything in that motor racing raffle I entered, so my appalling record in such continues. Kind of miffed that a lot of people won multiple prizes, sometimes up to half a dozen. Well, that should teach me. I don't think I'll do another, but it's a pain when you feel obliged to enter because you're being pestered.

Anyways, I suppose I'd better put another log on the fire...

Anyways, time to feed the cat, and then it will be time to feed me.

If those doing the pestering don't realise it, time to tell them. Besides...
