currently I am recovering someone's data after their daughters boyfriend decided that rebullding their work (single machine business) laptop without backing up their data was a good idea. they also changed them from windows to Linux mint not installing many drivers (including things like wireless and printers - so goodbye laptop idea).... there is no way of returning the machine to windows because the MBR has been overwritten and the F8 option is no longer present... so its a low level scan of the hard drive to recover important files such as pst files (all emails were set to download and delete from server!), word documents and more importantly the financial spreadsheets of the company. of course all of this is the only copy! Its been a long weekend what with house hunting as well!

I did manage to get a Linux to run from a CD on a machine that apparently had no hard drive as far as it was concerned. 'Puppy' I think it was called. That way I managed to get data off the HD because the Linux on the Live CD could see it, if not understand it or work with it.
