Either glue a 'sacrificial' strip on either end to help prevent spelch then plane that off or clamp a couple on if you have a long sash clamp.
Hopefully the weight of a big handheld will stop it 'kicking' too badly. I'd prefer to use a top bearing cutter and ditch the guide ring though.

Just tried the Cotswold Dry Gin. Very nice. Had to buy a bottle.

BTW Jo, good luck with your discussions elsewhere on CC. I've given up arguing with Capt Blimp. He speaks the same language as us but seems to inhabit an entirely different reality.........a reality I do not and never will comprehend.
