I thought you northerners viewed that as tropical?
11 here. Someone flipped a switch, and turned off Summer around here on Thursday. Now quite Autumn.

I've got seed, Niger seed and peanuts..... frequented by goldfinch, chaffinch, greenfinch, sparrows, pigeons and occasionally robin and wren. The last time I tried suet balls they were destroyed by crows.!

I have seed, meal worm, peanuts and suet, not tried niger yet, what will they attract?
I put out suet blocks (mine are very particular and will only eat this one brand!), mixed seed, sunflower hearts and nijer seed. The latter two are most commonly enjoyed by the goldfinches and greenfinches, and the mixed seed is eaten by all the song birds, though the blue tits prefer the feeder by the shrubs and climbing plants rather than the one on the feeding pole. I don't bother with whole peanuts as nobody touches them, but I scatter a mix of kibbled nuts, suet pellets, mealworms, seed and dried fruit on the ground and one of the living room windowsills, which the blackbirds and robins really enjoy.

Angry neighbors with yards full of thistle along their fence line. Because my neighbor also puts out ears of feed corn, we have a virtual menagerie passing through my back yard. There was a skunk, (but he got killed) and last night our Max and Heidi attacked an opossum (huge, rat-like marsupial) which instantly played dead, so they left it to its own devices. Such an attractive area of the neighborhood, we have had a Great Horned Owl, a Coopers Hawk, and a Red Tailed Hawk all working the area recently.

The finches go mad around the nijer feeder, pushing and squabbling..... sometimes think it's the bird equivalent of crystal meth .....and just as costly lol

I hang my feeder over the fence so it dangles above the field next door, gets a bit messy underneath and a small carpet of seedlings sprout, presumably small nijer seed plants. Used to have it over a bit of lawn but had to move it!
