Most likely a baby blackbird. And yes they are thrushes.
Song or missel thrush has a paler breast.
How am I ever going to tell the difference?
Why can't they have labels on to make it easy for townies like me?

So my extensive bird spotting in the back garden now comprises of.

Baby blackbirds
Robins
Wrens
Wood pigeons
Tree rats

Not bad for a beginner ^_^

Puddles

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?
I would have to see a picture to know if I've ever seen any :giggle:

Though, strictly speaking, the long tailed tit is not actually a tit. They behave pretty much the same and sometimes fly with tits, mind. And they're cute, playful little things.

Vaguely on the same topic, while I was out by the river this midday, I surprised a couple of grey wagtails and, for a very short time, they flew along in front of me, one on each side. Fighter escort.... Not that I was doing anything remotely like bombing along....

Aren't they? What are they instead? I love them and the way they usually travel in a gang.... Very noisily!

And just for you;) @potsy I've included some pics of a Blue tit and 2 pairs of Longtailed tits by my favourite bird illustrator, he even makes starlings look good. Some of Matt Sewell's labelling of birds may seem a little wrong to those more expert at bird ID in this thread :giggle:but the character in the illustration is lovely (IMO).
