I'm sat on the fence on this one: dialect on one side and ''correct'' on the other. While there may be substantial reasons for encouraging students to have an acceptable level of standardised English, not least for their careers, there should also be room for dialectical constructions IMO. Dialect is not incorrect. And in the past tense - I was sat - it seems to be almost standard Scottish English.
