Doesn;t mean that the FIA started snooping and Red Bull noticed and "reset" something

like those huge clouds of black smoke that used to come out of Ferrari's pits on startup
rumours of burning oil via some clever fiddling of the regulations and how it is measured
FIA start looking around and suddenly the clouds stop and the Ferrari goes slower
nothing changed - just different track

Yeah right

Or perhaps that the Red Bull car was designed by an ace aerodynamacist but he has now left the team and someone else who is not as good is in charge of the required updates as the competition improves.

Do you mean 'Max is way ahead' - he's got a 160 points advantage over Sergio

Yes - but Sergio is suddenly finishing closer to Max in quall and the race

although there were times when he did anyway - so not definitive

and it is possible that Max wanted the car set up a certain, and unusual, way
so his team mates - who didn;t like that setup - were behind him because the car was built for that setup and twiddled with for the other driver
but now other teams catching up have forced them to adopt a more normal design so Sergio is better off and Max doesn;t have the weird car he wants

or a Warlock in the remote Mexican mountains has cast a spell on Max

or all of the above - none have any more evidence that the others

I think what @Illaveago means is that Max isn't making Checo look like he's driving a van Diemen RF86 with lead plates in the cockpit anymore. The gap between them has definitely closed of late, and it's more that Max has gone backwards rather than Checo forwards. Checo is bimbling along where he's been bimbling for much of the season so far.

Another way of looking at it is that Red Bull now have argueably the 4th best car. On Sunday they finished with Max in 6th despite being on a poor tyre strategy behind both Ferraris , both Mclarens and the Mercedes that didn't have an incident in the race. The 5th best team (Aston Martin?) still couldn't catch them.
They've just been left behind in the 2024 development race.

Looks like the reduction of wind tunnel time they got slapped with by the FIA for breaching the cost cap is just one of the many things that's come to bite them on the bum.

Add to that the reduction in both wind tunnel and CFD time for winning the championship.

More interesting to me is how McLaren managed to turn around their performance so quickly and will it be banned next season ?

Looks like Red Bull are back on form. Mercedes are running an older floor and also on form, so that might explain why the Bull is running better, if this is a track that favours older configurations.

It could be a close run thing towards the end of the season the way things are going.
Sainz / Perez collision not sure what happened

Looks a bit 50:50 on who turned into who, but Sainz made a mistake to allow Perez to challenge him. He made a great move to get past Perez and then got greedy trying to take Leclerc and compromised his exit, giving Perez a run on him.

Great drive from Piastri though, he’s really stepping up.

Sainz / Perez collision not sure what happened

While I've watched the incident a couple times, it perhaps needs a slo mo look, it happened so quick.
It genuinely seems to me the Sainz didn't deviate from his line and was obviously in front.
In the split second it happened, it seemed more like Perez veered into Sainz although as any contact was made, it may have pulled him violently into the Ferrari.

My instant reaction was despite Perez gesticulating after the event, it looked to me like Sainz was the innocent party.
