Could just be a loose battery connection.

Or a connection to the starter solenoid has popped out, a common 1990's Ducati problem

Only charging at 12.3v with engine running, so the stator or the rectifier that were supposed to have been fitted new before I bought it appear to have failed.

Check Stator continuity between the 3 yellow wires coming out of alternator, should be around 0.6 to 0.9 ohms between any two of the three (check all).

Check for resistance to ground from all the yellow wires, should be no continuity to ground, if there is the stator has failed.

Regulator wise you're best off with a MOSFET reg/rec. They do a few universal kits.

Another full day out today on the “R” met up with some pals for lunch in Banbury and stopped in Chipping Campden en-route, the scenery from Burford to Stow was stunning.

Had a new Stator & Regulator last September before I bought the bike, last owner said he only rode it home, I can't have done more than 300 miles might even less than 200 but can't confirm as the stator has failed so can't switch ignition on to see the mileage. I presume if I contact the garage that charged him over £500 to do the work they will just tell me to FRO & the warranty stopped when he sold the bike.

Both look like Chinesium copies, the stator even has some marks on it where it looks like the magnets were actually touching the copper windings, all 3 wires have a route to earth.

Yeh it does look like Chinese tat unfortunately.

Is it a Sprint 1050?.

A genuine Triumph Regulator is probably £150, same as a good MOSFET unit (not bad to wire in, best off direct to battery via 40 amp fuse).

That stator is toast as well unfortunately.

Normally the Regulators fail and take the stator windings out (basically short the windings which then overheat and fail).

Worth a ring to garage, nothing to loose.

Yeah a 2008 Sprint 1050, the regulator is directly wired to the battery via a fuse, but don't think it's a MOSFET but I have no way of knowing. Not sure if this is not the opposite way around as you can see on the 3rd image the magnets have clipped the windings.

Do you know the bikes, are they supposed to have oil in where the stator is?

Never had my bikes out last year due to me going wibble, so both are out of ticket. No real plans to wheel them out this year if I'm honest.

I might sell the Max and use the funds to get a small 50s British single, maybe a 350, but I'll never sell the FZR.

Yes the flywheel has rubbed on the stator windings which probably killed it but if you are in doubt about the Regulator (Chinese) best off replacing the pair imho.

The Triumph OEM Regulator is not the best either to be fair, I've replaced quite a few over the years (they even had a recall at one point).

These are what I fit now, if money allows, they place less load on the stator and do not heat up in operation (a "normal" regulator sheds excess output from the stator as heat), these only take what is needed from the Stator keeping both under less stress.

They stator on your Sprint is designed to be run in oil.

I personally crimp and seal all the wiring as the connectors are another failure point but if you have all new kit then should be fine.

Post a picture up of your Regulator, I'm positive Triumph are Shindegen, SH plus a code on the top (same as Honda use).

A JMP Stator is around £130, they aren't bad quality to be honest.

I'll get you an image of it later & post up, I intend to do this only once so good quality stuff even if a little more expensive is fine.

That's how I ended up buying the sprint, I started looking for a Tiger Cub, or even a C15, but the prices were just silly compared with the Sprint

About 3 grand puts me on on a very straight-but-not-concours BSA B31. I'd rather have one with patina anyway.

My days of point and squirt are long behind me, but I reckon I still have some gentle bimble left in me,

Picked a Yamaha V50 up this week, been stood a number of years. Seized (from standing, I think) so plug currently out and a bit of Shell's finest diesel tipped down the hole. There have been a few old/modern bikes and scooters coming/going recently, will update some of the others later.
