Most bike 'innovations' are not that good, so what's the downside of this?

The downside is that the Dick deserves to fail for throwing nails on the road for someone else to run over. ^_^

I always have to take my tyres off to find punctures, so I wouldnt use that tool.

I wouldn't use it, because it is too specialised. It isn't readily bought, so when I run out of patches that are unique and unavailable, I'll be waiting for someone to show up with more patches before riding again. Special patches, special tool, special methods, makes for a unique tire patching experience. The problem is, tire patches should be readily available and I should have a good idea as to how to use them. The current system works for me, and I see no impetus for change .

More detailed video here.
They have a "puncture locator" wet wipe.
They don't state the size of the patch, how accurate you need to be with the injector, how clean or dry the inner tube needs to be, what is the min temp for operation.
