I find it hard to believe that a regular cyclist wouldn't know how to change a tube or fix a puncture.

Regular cyclists do know how to change a tube or apply a patch. The heaving masses who have bought an expensive bike and all the kit in the last few years because cycling is the "In" thing are the ones who don't.

Don't worry, they'll soon bugger off when it's no longer cool.

Does it matter that some people can't mend a puncture? Does it affect your enjoyment?

I would go further and say it *only* exists outside London.

Carry a repair kit, then fix it yourself, I've had punctures miles from home & the only option is to fix it & carry on,when it's too far to walk home

As a small child, about 7 or so, I got a puncture at the bottom of Westerham Hill and we had to knock on someone's door to ask to use the phone to call my mum to come and get me. Perhaps that event prompted lessons in puncture repair from my dad.
Didn't your mum make you carry 2p in your glove in case you needed to make an emergency phone call?

This amazes me, what's wrong with spare tubes, a kit and a co2 if you are in dodgy parts of town. I've only ever once called out the missus, and that's when the rim exploded.
