Yep!

Rather than the par marking system and hints I would rather have (say) 4 levels of decreasingly difficult clues

For example:

1. Diabolical
2. Tough
3. Tricky
4. Standard (The current level of difficulty)

Try the diabolically difficult clue. If/when you give up on that you get the tough clue. Fail again you get the tricky one. Eventually you get the standard clue. If you still don't get it maybe then the hints could kick in.

As someone who has probably been doing this longer than most on here, they do seem to have had.a.run of easier ones of late, but then it is called the minute cryptic, it isn't pretending to be the Guardian* Crossword
