A couple of apps for you cryptic crossword fans... Chambers Dictionary and Chambers Thesaurus.
I have them on my Android phone but they are available for Apple devices too. They are very good indeed.
The dictionary app not only has a comprehensive set of word definitions, it also has the ability to solve anagrams, find homophones (words that sound alike but have different meanings e.g. great and grate), and do wildcard searches (e.g. G, something, something, something, N, something, R - gleaner, grainer, greener, grinner, groaner). The 2 apps can swap between each other.
It is very rare for me not to find a word that I am looking for in the dictionary.
I use them when I think I know an answer but have never heard of the word. For example, in today's Metro cryptic crossword: A doleful tale from Jim Reade (8)...
This clearly looks an anagram of Jim Reade but I couldn't think of the word. This is what Chambers made of it...
Never heard of it, so I would not have thought of that!
I haven't figured out how the scoring system works. Today's score implies that this was a difficult clue to solve but I think that some with 1 or 2 under as best scores were harder.
