So who is Vingo going to get to beat up Pog at the tour?

Good news about Bernal.
Gaudu 😁 Seriously though, yes I can be sometimes.I think depending how the Giro goes they might take Roglic ? They've a decent enough team as it is.I wouldn't read too much into Vingo early form now, he'll be ready, and you can guarantee that Pog isn't going to change. The only tactic he has is attack 😁 Im thinking Jumbo have there fingers crossed that he's gonna burn himself out....
Should be good...again.

I notice that my favourite nearly man Guillaume Martin has now added Guyonnet to his surname.

It hasn't improved him😟

Bayonet ?

<snort>

We're gettting into Monty Python Pro-Cycling world now. Riders with pipes and bandoliers ...

Intriguing developments within the women's peloton. Last week, Kristen Faulkner stormed to 3rd place at Strade Bianche. Alas, eagle-eyed viewers (anyone with good eyes) spotted what looked like a glucose monitoring system on her arm, which is against UCI rules. After some investigation, she's now been disqualified!

Really disappointed for her but so confused why she wore it, she (or her team) must have known it was not allowed.

Reported on GCN that the team said that she had had the monitor fitted (presumably you need to fit them, I don't know) and was a last minute choice for Strade Bianche so she rode with it fitted but not connected for data gathering. That was their story anyway. Evidently it didn't wash with the UCI.

A big shame because it was quite some ride she put in.

Yanked from the Doping thread:

Apparently - the team said she had it fitted when she wasn't expecting to race. Then she was a last minute pick so she rode with the device present but not connected for data gathering. That was their story anyway, but the UCi was having none of it.

Anyway, it's nothing to do with doping so shouldn't be in this thread. It was an equipment infringement. Like socks. It's basically the UCI sulking and saying "we wish we'd banned power meters and heart rate monitors"

"Like socks."
[She's now been DQed. Cecilie Laughs-Manicaly inheritied 3rd, I think.]

It's a very clear rule, the team can't complain about this one. The twitersphere is full of journalists saying it's a silly rule - well they've had 2 years to comment on it since introduction!
PERSONALLY i don't think HRMs and PMs are good for the sport, but I can't see the clock ever being turned back on that one (what would Froome stare at during race??). There is some discussion that UCI banned this device due to the use of a needle, but that seems to be purely speculation as it falls under the blanket "tech that does biological monitoring" rule.

OK, OK maybe not exactly like socks. That was me bellyaching that it didn't belong in the doping thread. It's much closer to socks than it is to EPO.

I think it was just a team screw-up. She ended up racing with a device intended for training and they either forgot or actually believed that it wouldn't count if it wasn't connected. Are they at all difficult to remove? I don't know.

All in all a big shame. But at least it means that someone can doorstep Cecilie Bonkers-Interview for a bonkers interview about it.

As to HRMS and PMs in competition. I have no idea. Michael Hutchinson has said that at pro level they actually make little difference in competition. If you spend all that time training with all that data, you just know. I've also read that the latest generation of riders coming through are the "data generation" who have trained their whole lives with massive amounts of data available. Which may mean something. Or maybe not.

I find it surprising that the UCI didn't ban the things when they first emerged, so fond are they of banning things. I think the first time I ever noticed a HRM was on Chris Boardman - and that was roughly when the UCI was in full banning frenzy what with monocoque bikes and aero positions.
