:sad:Good morning all. Have we any medical bods on board. I may know the answer but i don't want to go down that road yet. Six weeks ago i vol'd to move some furniture,a Wed's then on the Sunday moved some more.
Three day's later both my knees swelled up.The left one has been swelling up and down since xmas eve. Well it's just gone again. Big lump at the back of the knee, thick band of swelling arond the front of the knee. Clicking feeling when walking and when walking upstairs feels like the inside of the knee is being pumped up like a ballon.Surgery has no spaces so have to try later in the week.
Any ideas what's gone wrong anyone?

I had something like that many years ago.
As I recall my doctor said water on the knee. Not too sure as it was a long time ago.

I think I had that some time ago. Affected knee looked more rounded and fuller as opposed to its usual boney appearance. Felt like it was wrapped in a tight bandage and movement was restricted likewise. Could be water on the knee. Mine went away after about a week. Best see the doc.

postman, I'm not a doctor as such (scientific, not medical), but I have had some experience with knees. The lump at the back sounds like a bakers cyst (popliteal cyst) and is a collection of fluid that occurs when some of the fluid that lubricates the cartilage leaks out. Therefore there is a chance that you have some damaged cartilage (meniscus).

Of course diagnosis over the net (from a non-medical doctor) is probably not 100%! Go and see a doctor, get it looked at properly. The best treatment is early treatment.

As for my knee, I messed mine up doing judo, and three operations later I have a knee that is 20 years older than I am. Hey ho. Cycling is actually good for it! ;)

Ah, if you've already had surgery done, then you might be in the same boat as me. If I occasionally over do it with my knee it can get sore for a few days and I can get a new bakers cyst. However, if I rest the knee it does tend to resolve itself after a while. I think once the knee is damaged, it can just get grumpy from time to time.

Ice, rest and anti-inflammatories are probably the best thing until you see the doc.

As well as messing up some cartilage I managed to rupture my anterior cruciate ligament. I had a new ligament fashioned out of some of my hamstring and some metal screws!:ohmy:

Could you wear drainpipe trousers? Or maybe a tap on the knee?

Well I thought it was particularly witty.

To be fair, magna, most of us have had some experience with at least one knee, otherwise our shins would fall off.

Hope you get better soon postman.
