I see that BBC is including Mark in the suggested line-up. What's the chances of cyclists winning the SPOTY two years running??

Zilch. But its worth a go voting for him anyway.

Cav had a cracking year, but sports 'personality'? I'd have gone for Wiggins myself. Not in any way a negative reflection on Cavendish, but after the way Wiggins laid in to that moron of a television chef who thought it was funny to have a go at cyclists I think that in 'personality' terms Wiggins should win hands down!

Pendletons achievement (back to back world championships with an olympic title in the middle) should be acknowledged with a win, but of course, she's not nominated. Shame.

No nomination for Chrissie Wellington either, and even more surprisingly no nomination from the Times who named her their Sportswoman of the Year a couple of weeks ago.

It's time they dropped the personality bit and focus on sporting achievement too.

Button will win it by a country mile. Murray would have a chance perhaps if he won wimbledon, but even if Wiggo took 1st spot on TDF he still wouldn't have a hope of getting SPOTY.

I'd have thought Jessica Ennis, Andrew Strauss and Phillips Odowu had the best claims on the title. They're each, in their different ways, very personable.

spoty- not that tosser cavendish

Maybe it's just me, but Cavendish comes across as an arrogant whinging brat who needs a good slapping. Not a very endearing " personality "

He's very good at completing the TdF 4 hours behind everyone else, and hiding behind his team until he can have a bit of a sprint, and blocking the occasional Norwegian. Also is incredibly rude to ITV4 interviewers from time to time

On the other hand Wiggins is very personable, completed the TdF a couple of minutes behind Contador, and is very gracious.

Hmmmmm......difficult one

The problem is all the media are talking about 'World Champions'. The likes of Wiggins and Cav did not win the world's, so are not as good as a diver or boxer!!! It will be a very long time before the public will be able to see wining the Milan San Remo as far more difficult than playing cricket.

Also, what about Steve Peat? World Champion and the most world cup victories ever.

In terms of personality and achievement, yes button will win but he is a good driver who had an advantage of an unbeatable car for the first 7 races

He will get his arse handed to him by hamilton next year

I would go for Jess Ennis- lovely personality- magnificent achievement, overcame her weak events to destroy the worlds best heptathletes.

I think the 'personality' aspect is irrelevant these days - it's about achievement as Will says. The days of Gazza or Henry Cooper winning it because they're zany or weepy or nice is over.
Button will walk it I suspect but my vote would go to Strauss or Tweddle.

Barnet,
My vote wil go to Cav. He may be a bit brash and come across as arrogant, but he is a personality. His record as far as last year goes is impressive. If not Cav, then Jessica Ennis deserve to win in my opinion.

I'd vote for Button, great driver, and also a very very very good triathlete. That takes dedication.

Watching the TdF, Cav seemed not to bother going for the green jersey, as if he couldn't be bothered.....there was no competition for the sprint stages with most of his rival sprinters being out of the tour. Sure, he is brilliant, but could have tried a bit harder for that jersey

If Cav won the sprint jersey i would have voted for him, he did amazingly well but not enough to win. Not sure who i'll vote for if I'm honest, will have a think.

WTF is Ryan Giggs in it? If we're being selective he has the personality of a sponge, and a wet sponge at that. At least Cav, whether you like him or not, has abit to him, even if that is brashness & arrogance of the young.
